Car seats- help please

Please could I have some help on car seats as I am rapidly losing my temper about this ! The problem is I have a long baby who is nearly 7 months (weighs 20lb) but can't sit unaided for the half an hour he's supposed to so he can't go in a forward facing seat. He's too big for all the first stage car seats ie his head goes over the top and the straps are much too far below his shoulders.

Went to look at the 0+ & group 1 combination seats ie. Bebe Comfort Iseos & Britax First Class - they won't fit in the back of my *** car. They will both go in the front if I got the airbag disabled and moved the seat right back, but my Mum who's about to move down here, needs a hip op and will need ferrying around won't be able to get in the back. I've just had on of the Swedish rear facing ones delivered, but that doesn't fit either.

What do I do ? Have I missed something obvious or do I have to change my car so I can get something like the Iseos in ? If so, any suggestions on what I get ? TIA

how small is your car? i have the club class extra and i could fit it reclined in the back of my old metro. was a tight squuze but worked. i didnt know babies had to be able to sit unaided for 30mins to use the forward facing seats. dd2 had to use one from around 5 months as she was a whopper. but i had the seat reclined so it was almost lying down. but she could sit fairly well, was just crawling and held her head well.

It's a Toyota Corolla (which I absolutely hate anyway!), not the new model and fairly cramped inside. I rang Britax as I'd cleaned DD's Britax Renaissance and read the instructions where it said about independently. They were adamant that he shouldn't go front facing until he can sit for that length of time. DS being a typical male is taking his time about the whole sitting/moving thing.

typical male
there must be something out there. welcome to the joys of having a larger than average child btw! next you'll be trying to buy some first shoes and they wont do his size as his feet are too big. so u resort to slippers.
