Calming mobiles...any ideas?

I bought a symphony in motion mobile for my DS when he was born(now aged aged 7 months) but would like any advice on mobiles that calm babies... S. in motion is great but doesn't seem to calm but rather excite him and of course now I've only got the music section of it up as after 5 months the overhead bit is dangerous in case he pulls himself up on it. Does anyone have a mobile that is safe for a 7 month old and has calming music? Bedtime routine has got easier over the months but I'm thinking a mobile might be a good part of encouraging him to sleep.

we were given a cd from arran aromatics called "baby feel happy"
baby feel happy music cd we play this to dd as background music on loop all night and for naps during day. we've done this since she was a few days old. the first time we played it,we all slept for 7 hours!!!
it has similar soothing music to a mobile. hope this helps you. good luck

mobiles just give babies something to watch and as they get older they excite them

I'd advise ditching the mobile

maybe give him a special sleep toy / blankie (make sure you have lots of them)

I personally believe the less props a baby needs to fall asleep the better

ta Macdog. have ordered... you might be right about mobiles Twiglet, though I guess for every baby it's different. Will ponder further
