Which baby walker?

Not the kind you sit in which is bad for spine etc, but the kind you push along when you're first learning to walk by yourself.

Have seen a couple at friends' houses, but have noted some flaws in the designs...

  • some have a brake, but it can still move backwards when this is on, so if baby stumbles a little backwards it will move with them and they'll fall back.
  • wheels - friends with wooden floors have said that you really need one with rubber wheels so that it holds on the floor, but I don't think I've seen any with rubber wheels!

So, given my above comments, can anyone recommend a particular walker please. DD is keen to get moving so I'd like to buy her one asap.

TIA

Trad ones with bricks are popular

We have the vtech one

we have the ELC one which converts into a ride on DS loves it. Also has a built in shape sorter

IKEA do a little cart with a handle that has screws on the wheels you can tighten so that the wheels don't go round very fast. You can also fix the handle at 2 diff heights for first stumbles then competent pushing. They can put their toys in it and push them around. Very cheap.

Otherwise get a plastic train or car with a handle on the back and a toy compartment under the seat. 3 things in one - they like it for years.

We have laminate floor and DD managed OK with the V-Tech one which just has plastic wheels. It did run away with her a bit when she first started, but she soon got the hang of it. She loved playing with the button/keyboard section which detachs before she was using the walker too.

medulla - is it this one that you have? Have you used it on wooden floors ok? Does it have a brake?

I think the v-tech one is the one we bought for the friends who've commented on the wheels, as they have laminate floors. Maybe they're being too fussy?

Like the idea of tightening the wheels to slow down the IKEA one. Haven't been in an ikea for years, so maybe I'd better pay it a visit.

Any more ideas ladies?

Yes that's it, no it doesn't have a brake but it hasn't been a problem so far. We don't have laminate floors but we do have a tiled kitchen floor and he copes very well. The nice thing about is it is also a toy he enjoys playing with as it has buttons and music and a shape sorter. We haven't got to the ride on stage yet but we're not far off it!
