Why is school uniform so crappy?

Last year I got DD some lovely fitted polo shirts from M&S. They had scalloped collars and a little pocket and were a bit thicker and generally rather nice. Cost £4 each but that was fine.
This year, having finally tracked the style down in the right size at M&S, I discover that they are cheaper - £3 - but horrible! No fitting and literally see-through. Might as well buy some more of the el cheapo ones I nabbed at Sainsbury?s.

Grrrr! Why do they have to grind price into the ground at the expense of quality? I would happily pay more for something nice. Anyone found anything better - ie not see through?? but still girlie and nice?????

Adams do girlie polo shirts with a scalloped collar and pretty buttons. I've found them better than M&S; they're well made, keep their shape, and they wash and wear well.

The cheap stuff I got from Sainsbury's fell apart the first time I washed it so a bit of a false economy really!

Agree totally with Fio that the not-bargain Ladybird ones wash and wash.
We also buy some David Luke stuff from the school outfitter as you can feel the heavier weight and tighter weave on the trousers and they hang better on ds' diminutive backside. (Not much use for you there clary )

Ah yes, the school outfitter. That's a good idea actually.
Will look in Woolies for non-bargain prices and adams too.
Fio ironing not an issue for me, I like doing it, you know [mad emoticon]

eh? Fio? no uniform in woolies? Are the children not allowed to grow, then?? (I swear DD is bigger than when I bought her new school pinafore - put it on today for the first time and it looks well short!)

yes I like ironing - see laundry threads passim - it gives me an excuse to watch crap TV. Also enjoy the cheap thrill of pile of beautful neat clothes. I'm a bit sad I know.

I know, I know. It's like, you can't buy a swimming costume in the winter, even though children still have swimming lessons (and girls in particular need to have one that fits IYSWIM).
Oooh liking the new emoticon!
