i'm desperate to get a sling for ds (8 weeks) as he loves being close but i have an older toddler and need my hands free to tend to her and do things around the house.

he's a huge baby and i'm quite tall, and slim enough (and hope to be slimmer as soon as i lose the baby weight!)

i'm not keen on anything that is basically a sheet of cloth and an instruction manual.... want a pouch type sling really. also needs to be very reasonably priced as we're pretty broke.

thanks in advance!

I've got a premaxx sling up for grabs. They have a website, but I'm crap at links sorry. google it! A few of my friends have one and love it, but ds2 is not at all keen; prob because he's onlty been introduced to it now, at nearly 8 months. So I'm selling I paid £34, but you can have it less than that if you were interested.

Try having a look at brightspark slings .

Can you sew?

Bigmamasslings has instructions to sew your own pouch sling.

Alternatively they offer a hire. I have just hired a hotslings pouch, which I think looks fab. I will buy it if it proves to be so.

The Best Sling On The Planet if you have any back problems is the Ergo, but its more expensive (it'd work out arounf £100, though it'd last you 2-3 years)

reviews of slings here

mustrunmore, the premaxx looks very good, is it bulky for wearing around the house though with all the pockets? is it a one size fits all? how much would you be willing to sell it for?

thanks for the links Oxy and FJTBE, those brightsparxx and hotslings look lovely. don't think i'd have the confidance to sew my own.... can see disasterous consequences to that!

Not unless you stuff them full of things seriously, no, no, not bulky. Was thinking about £28 inc postage. And then the search is on for something ds2 does like, or just stick to a combination of buggy and hipseat between the 2 boys Its the reddy orangy pinky one BTW.

lunavix · 25/09/2006 17:54

the brightsparks are whst YF has
i want a hugabub its one bit of cloth and a dvd

mustrunmore · 25/09/2006 17:55

Oh, and yes, one size; an adjustable shoulder strap. And then there are drawstrings top and bottom to adjust for the child. you'd need to print instructions off that website though, as i dont have a copy. Or I could do that for you and enclose!!

PinkTulips · 25/09/2006 18:04

sounds fair MRM, i'm in ireland so if you could find out how much postage would be and e-mail me (dee_pinktulips AT hotmail DOT com) i can sort out payment by postal order or something.

thanks for all the links FJTBE, much appreciated

lol at cloth and a dvd luna

I made myself a pouch sling out of fleece because I couldn't believe it would work. I then bought a lighterweight one from Brightsparks slings because it was so fab. Virtually idiot proof because you just put it on like a sash. No straps, no tying bits here and there, no wrapping. And it doubles as a baby blanket.

mustrunmore · 25/09/2006 18:17

TBH, I cant be bothered to find out!So as it'd be a bit more than inland, I assume, can we just call it £30 all in? I'll emailyou after boys in bed!

PinkTulips · 25/09/2006 18:17

i'm being so very tempted to buy some fabric and have a bash at making one..... poor ds would land on the floor pretty quickly me thinks.

does anyone have a Peanut Shell sling? they look fab but i've never heard of them peanut shell

liquidclocks · 25/09/2006 18:20

The bush baby papoose is good because you can put baby in before you put it on and take it off the same way - way better design than the baby bjorn, has good back support too.

SoupDragon · 25/09/2006 18:22

That peanut shell is just another fancy name for a pouch sling

liquidclocks · 25/09/2006 18:22

btw I've also made my own sling and use the 'wrap cross carry' method (see didymos website) - you just need 5 yds x 20 inches of cotton/linen (not too thick) in a design you like - you don't need to hem it if you don't want to but I have.

SoupDragon · 25/09/2006 18:25

At its very simplest, PinkTulip, it's just a length of fleece with one seam in it.

I've just rememberd what I love about the poiuch sling - you can wriggle out of it and put your baby down or in a carseat/pram without waking them up.

PinkTulips · 25/09/2006 18:25

lol MRM, cheers
