Toyota Rav4 or Nissan Qashqai

I am looking for a 4x4 to replace our 8 year old Honda SUV and am considering the Nissan Qashqai and the Toyota Rav4. Safety is important (especially not skidding in snow and ice) and I want to feel comfortable. I have never driven either and I'm a bit worried that the Nissan Qashqai will feel like I'm driving in a tin can. Will it? Getting good quality features for the money is also important to me - heated seats, good sat nav and a well-placed coffee holders would be ideal. All opinions and advice gratefully received

We have just bought a one year old Rav4, it's a 2 litre diesel icon model and we're really pleased with it. It feels very safe and sturdy and has lots of space which we were lacking in our golf. We have a 2 year old and is great for space and for taking all of his stuff and will hopefully be good when we go camping next year. Would recommend!!! Smile

I've spent some time with both and to be honest I couldn't pick one over the other. Both drove well and felt well built. I'd expect both to be reliable. I'm sure you won't be disappointed whichever you choose.

Thanks guys. I appreciate you taking the time to give me advice. It sounds as though they are both good options. It's good to get some owners' views - I'm always a bit wary of official reviews.

Never owned either but have driven both a reasonable amount.

Do you drive for a living?

We have a Toyota Rav4 in Norway. The driving conditions are winding narrow, icy roads, steep hills, up across mountain passes, as well as city driving and speed up to 80 km per hour on wet roads with snow and sleet. It also does well on muddy roads (and hill) when the spring sun has turned the snow to utter mush, and deep puddles of water.

We took both the Quashqai and the Rav4 (as well as the Honda CRV) for weekend test drives (car dealers let people take cars for the weekend to give them a thorough test drive) around Easter time, when we had all conditions, from minus 10 degrees at night, to plus 10 and sunshine in the day.

We chose the Rav4. Smile Perfect car for rough conditions and snow.
