Girls' Dancewear - size advice please

New to all this girly dancewear lark and am confused ! dd is just 5 and I have to order her a ballet skirt and shoes, modern shiny leotard and footless tights which I can do through the school dance teacher. She advises us to get Size 1 leotard/tights and hitch the shoulders if needs be. However I have already got dd a 2nd hand ballet one in Size 0 and it still seems to have plenty of room. She's only the size of a 4yr old so think Size 1 would swamp her. Any advice on sizing please. Also have heard ballet shoes come up small. She's a Startrite 8 , so do I get 9's ?

My DD is just 4 and growing out of her size 0 leotard. She has borrowed a size 1 one and its not too huge on her, just a bit more roomy (they dont gape or anything so don't look too huge).

Personally, I'd go for a size 1, theres no point getting one and her growing out of it in one term.

With ballet shoes, you go 1 1/2 sizes above their usual shoe, so your dd should go for at least a 9 1/2 ballet shoe. You attach elastic to the ankle anyway so they dont fall off and they have string at the front to keep them on tight too. My dd wears a size 9 start rite and has been in her 10 1/2 ballet shoes for a while.

ballet shoe sizing is all different depending where you buy them, dd wears a size 7f startrite and her ballet shoes are a 9, best bet is to take your dd to dance wear shop to try them on, whatever you do don't order online as sizez are all different, size 0 sounds perfect for a 4yr old for leotard

Well was advised by teacher today to go with current shoe size so ordered 8 1/2's. Whole caboodle, excluding ballet leotard was just over £50
