I'd like to get my DD one for Christmas. Have seen one in ELC but it's pricey when you buy all the furniture. There are a couple in the GLTC catalogue but i'm a bit wary of buying without seeing it first to judge the quality, has anyone got one, what do you think? Also traditional or modern style? TIA

we bought plain wooden one from ToysRus recently for DS2's 3rd birthday. It was £20 and each room is £5. He loves it but it is very plain and not at all girly (which is what we were after obviously)
They have a slightly bigger one with rooms (and family?) included for anout £50 IIRC but we wanted the cheaper one and then let other people buy the rooms!

Hadn't thought of toysrus, so thanks for that. Like the idea of expanding it, as DD's birthday is close to Xmas we're always stuck for present idea. Will have a look now.

anyone recommend the playmobil mansion? My DS's have loads of boy stuff and i love the idea of finding a pirate or a crane operator tucked up in bed with a princess!!

We saw that but it was a bit pricey for us IIRC

I just looked up the prices and fainted! Even on ebay the second-hand ones are going for crazy prices.

Having looked at Playmobil, and remember liking it myself, i think 3 is a bit young. The bits are very fiddly and you will be forever helping her when she gets frustrated!! And they are v pricey.

Traditional or modern doesn't matter, they still play with them the same. Try Toys R Us - last spring they had some which were supposedly £50 down to £30, wooden ones like ELC.

The wooden ones are easier to play with for small hands, and leave more to the imagination as there are less bits. If she gets into craft when she's older, you might be able to extend the play value when she can make little knitted carpets for it or something. (Just an idea, my older dd never was into that sort of thing so I don't know if it is a good one!!)

there are some really nice ones in the new great little trading catalogue

dd has the Playmobil Grande Mansion but agree it would be a bit fiddly for a 3yr old. Lots of small parts like shoes and flowers and might also get tatty quite quickly (stickers and wallpaper which are tempting to remove!).

thanks everyone, foxinsocks (great name BTW) the gltc catalogue was what set me off on the idea, i like the white one with the pink roof.
