Can't remember what they're called, but they also make mattresses out of the same stuff. Have any of you tried them? Are they good? My pillows have had it (ooh er missus) and I need to get some new ones, so any thoughts?

havent tried them, but i beleive they are called memory foam

my osteopath recommended them to me, the ones he gets are proper expensive jobbies but he and his wife and patients that have them swear by them. noticed recently that ikea have started doing them: they do a very cheap version and a more expensive one. don't know how good they are though compared to the orthopaedic ones though?

We have a tempur mattress and I adore it! My dh hates it mind you. A friend gave us one for our dd, and she loves them too. Poor dh!

Don't know about other makes.

Some shops let you try them out for 10/15 minutes - the mattresses that is. I don't see why you couldn't try out a pillow in a bed shop. We spent a fairly long time lying (sp?) about in our local shop, with the pillow too. I didn't like it, but I like a pillow to be cold. The foam starts off cold when you get in, but warms up beautifully. Great for a mattress, but not for a pillow imo!

we finally got around to going out and buying a new mattress today. Ours is over 10 yrs old an as lumpy as cobbled street.

I tried a few of those memory foam/tempura mattresses thinking they'd be wonderful(especially as MN says they are) and they were bloody awful.
It was like laying on a bed covered in marshmellow.

The bloke in the shop siad if you have trouble slepping on warm summer evening them DO NOT buy one of those mattresses and from the few mintues I spent on them I can understand why...they sort of engulf you.

I was shocked at how horrible I found them TBH because I alway s thought that looked really comfy in telly....

I have a memory foam mattress. It is heavenly. Dp hates it, oh well, all the more for me!

LadyTophamHatt · 13/09/2006 22:19

sorry you were asking about pillows weren't you??

well the mattresses were awful IMO so I imagine the pillows would be too.

Feather pillows all the way!!!

melrose · 13/09/2006 22:19

I have a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam layer on top, have had it about 6 weeks and is heavenly. DH and I still sigh with contentment when we get into it each night!!!Did not like the complete memory foan as you sort of sink into it, my parents ahve one though asnd sat it takes a wekk to get used to and is then bliss.

DH has one of the pillows and loves it, I prefer my posh feather one. Whatever buy the best you can afford in pillow and mattress, you spend so much time in iot and it is amazing the difference it makes to your quality of sleep!

MrsSpoon · 13/09/2006 22:22

I love our Tempur however they do feel a bit weird initially and they are warmer than a traditional mattress.

My DH sleeps wonderfully on it every night. I have trouble sleeping these days but when I do have a good night's sleep I notice the quality of the sleep is far superior.

I would like the pillows next.

brimfull · 13/09/2006 22:39

We have the mattress and I use the pillow. We only bought one and lucky for me dh hated it.
They do take getting used to and they are warm in the summer.
I never get a sore neck now and I always used to have a stiff neck .
I saw some in matalan for £18,don't know if the cheap ones are any good though. The ikea one is hard as rock,dh bought one a few weeks ago as he's jealous of my comfort and wanted to have another go.

surprise · 13/09/2006 23:03

thanks for that. I imagine that the blokes don't like the mattresses because they're too hot. DP is always baking even in sub zero conditions. Might go for a pillow then. thanks
