Car seat trouble

DS (2.2 yrs) looks as if he is growing out of current car seat but I see that the next stage up isn't supposed to be until they are about 4 (although weight says from 15kg). Is anyone using the "highback booster" on a child that is under 4??
To add to the problem we are coming over to the UK ( to Weybridge in Surrey) next week (we live in Spain) and need to get hold of a car seat to use for only a couple of days. Was considering buying the next size up then we could bring back to use here in Spain but if not appropriate I don't know what to do!! Anyone live in Weybridge area who has a car seat I could borrow from Thursday/Friday until Sunday?!!

how much does DS weight chicca?

When you say 'gwoing out' of his current seat what do you mean? ears level with top of seat, shoulders above strap holes?

They're meant to stay in Group 1 seats (Priorifix, Tobi etc) till they're 15kg as the Group 2 (ie 15-25kg) seats use the adult seatbelt not a harness, hence aren't safe for smaller children in an accident.
Is he really 15kg and the size of a 4yo?

Yes, I am. I've got a Maxi Cosi Rodi for DD2, who is 3.5. She's been using the seat probably since she was about 2, maybe a bit older than 2, but was more than 15kgs. Can't help with the loan of a carseat in Surrey I'm afraid - not through lack of carseats I might add, as we've got plenty!

You can get some Group 1,2,3 seats that will do for a 2 year old up to, well, 135cm or 12yo. We had to get one for dd as she grew out of her group 2 seat at 2.6. It still has the harness, but when she is old enough that can be removed and it will act as a high seat booster. I wouldn't pput her in the booster alone because I can't trust her not to undo the seat belt. Ours is by Britax (can't remember themodel offhand, I'm thinking evolva, but not sure....) Anyway, there are a few on the market, and it might be what you're after.

yep, it's the Evolva - the Britax Evolva 123 Ultra and Recaro Start Plus are the only 1-3 seats that did ok in the Which? trials.
The M&P Alto and Elan, Britax Ranger and Trio, Concord Trimax X-line and Meggy Kombi (all 1-3 seats) got 'Don't Buy!' warnings.
