Maxi Cosi Cabrio carseat

Hi, I've got one of these carseats for dd3 who likes kicking her feet. She now keeps kicking the seatbelt out of the "hook" things on either side of the chair, so she's not always got the strap across her legs now, it's only on one side. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem - is it a design fault, am I not putting the seat in correctly (I'm 99.9% sure I am) or is it because of the moulded seat in our car (Audi A6)? If anyone can help, that would be great!

Hmmm.
Surely if she kicks it, it will just push the belt further into the hooks rather than it come out. Unless she is hooking her feet round it and pulling it IYSWIM?
How old is she? Could she be ready for the next seat?

I think the routing of the belt is probably important to keep the seat safely attached to the car so I would be a bit concerned if it was pinging out - tha manual and a handy video are here if you want to check the installation.
Have you thought about the EasyBase that you leave strapped into the car and just click the seat into?

Shes 7 months YellowFeathers. She kicks and pulls her feet back, so I'm guessing that she is
hooking it out that way. It's always seemed a bit "slippery" but it's never come out before. I'm longing for her to be old enough for the next stage carseat as I'm worried that the seat's not stable enough. Fortunately dd1 is in the car most of the time when it happens so can slip the belt back into place.

I'm surprised that if the belt is taut across there is enough slack for her to manouevre it. Is there any alternative routing to fix it without the belt passing over her ?

kando · 13/09/2006 17:14

Nope, Liz, the belt has to pass over her legs for it to be "secure". I pull the seatbelt as tightly as I possibly can every time she's put in the carseat so I'm not quite sure how she manages to get the belt out from it's fixing. Perhaps it's the seatbelt then? MrsBadger - it's definately being fitted correctly. The easybase looks great, but I'm not sure it's worth getting as she'll be in the next stage carseat in a matter of weeks really.

Sometimes when dh puts ours in, I notice that the lap belt is loose so I always end up checking it and pulling it at the back to make sure its tight.
I would be tempted to go back to where ever you bought it and get them to check it out, just in case there is a fault or something.

I had this car seat for DS1 and never had this prob. When I put it in the car, I used to lean backwards when I put it over the feet part to get it really taught. It really should be so tight that the seat doesnt move otherwise if you stopped suddenly, it could just slip out of the belt. I looked at crash test videos before I bought it and it is really frightening what a poorly fitted or a wrong sized car seat does to the child!

I would def go back to the shop where you bought it and just check everything is ok. Nothing to loose I think

Sorry if that all sounds a bit preachy!!
