Boots does them.

LIZS · 30/03/2004 19:09

First time was from Boots (ask at pharmacy of larger branches) , second (posted abroad) was NatureTens which I ordered online.

popsycal · 30/03/2004 19:58

oh i got them from somewhere cheaper than boots - freddiecat is the person to ask..........she told me......hold on i will email her

emmatmg · 30/03/2004 20:12

Yep, get mine from Boots too but Popsy's suggestion sounds like it's going to be better

Some Hospitals hire them too, mine local maternity hosp did when I was PG with DS1.....but that was 5 yrs ago so maybe not now.

popsycal · 30/03/2004 20:13

btw - i hired a machine form where freddiecat told me, got to the hospital and they had their own - maybe ring hospital to find out before you hire.....

although i was induced so didnt need until i was in hospital - i guess you need your own one at home if you go into labour naturally

have emailed freddie but will now text her for you

manna · 31/03/2004 14:06

thanks everyone - I asked at boots but was told they didn't hire them, only sold them?!

try your local chapter of the NCT. They often are cheaper than 'companies' - certainly cheaper than buying your own.
I rented one out for a couple of weeks but found it didn't really do anything for me and I considered it a waste of money. Of course, didn't know that before I had rented it...
hope you find one!

popsycal · 31/03/2004 19:36

i am SURE that I posted on here last night with info!!!
am going crazy!!!

right we got ours from bodyclock

Freddie reminded me thah hers broke during labour but they refunded her without question
both me and my sister also used them with out any problemns. I also returned mine 2 weeks late as we were in scbu and forgot - no extra charge!!!

They are much cheaper than boots etc

Check them out

still freaking me out as to where my post ios from last night
lol

Tommy · 31/03/2004 19:37

I rented one from Lloyds Chemists - no problems and I couldn't have done without it!

bluebear · 31/03/2004 19:42

Got mine from www.naturesgate-uk.com
I heard Boots don't hire them anymore.

Fennel · 31/03/2004 20:05

My local Boots still hires them, I phoned them this week about it. It's a large branch, they must vary.

Bozza · 01/04/2004 10:44

popsycal when did you order yours? It says its for 30 days hire and delivered in 48 hours. Was going to order one but probably not a good idea at only 33+4 weeks.

manna · 02/04/2004 14:20

thanks everyone - |I better get on with it, only 3 weeks to go!

OP posts:
popsycal · 02/04/2004 20:00

popsycal · 02/04/2004 20:01

popsycal · 02/04/2004 20:20

You can hire a Maternity Tens at www.maternitytens.com. A small company run by a mum for 'mums to be'

I started this business myself last year when I couldn't find any TENS for hire, and a number of other mums said the same thing, and so I thought...mmmm

I did manage to get hold of one, used it and found it really worked well and though that I'd start a service to help other 'mums to be' aswell.

Please have a look at the website where you can order and pay online or give me a call on 01332 812825 and I'd be happy to help any of you out.

I charge just £20 for thirty days hire, which is the cheapest that I've found (way less than Boots or Mothercare!) and we deliver to your door.

are all tens machines the same? Does it matter where you get them from ?

KatiesMum · 10/04/2004 16:53

In reply to 'are all TENS the same'...
.......Yes and No.

You should have a Maternity Tens Unit rather than just any TENS if it's to be used for childbirth as the frequencies used/electrode pads are are all specifically set for contraction pains.

There are many different types of Maternity Tens though...we use 'Bodyclock's Lady Tens' as they are very easy and simple to use (you don't want six different knobs to twiddle when you are giving birth !) and they are small enough to slip into your dressing gown pocket.

See www.maternitytens.com for more info !
