Non-bio vs Biological washing powder

I've bee using non-bio since ds was born cos I figured it was better on his skin. He's now 18 months and getting muddy/messy/tomatoey and it's not washing well at all.

He doesn't have really sensitive skin, but does occasionally have dry, red patches of skin on his body. Having just washed all his bibs in biological powder - they're actually properly spotless for the first time in ages. Should I switch to bio for all his clothes (apart from his nappies) or is it not advisable for toddlers at this age.

What do you use and for what age?

Hi, I use non-bio for all the family (ds is nearly 5 now). If you prefer the results you get from bio powder then why not try washing something that will be next to ds's skin in it and see whether his skin reacts or not? I don't think I would wash everything in bio without testing first - you may have no problems though.

I am glad you have started this thread cos I was going to start a similar one last week and thought I would get laughed at! My prob is that I don't know the difference in the first place between the two types of washing powder!

(I did know when I was taught it for my GCSE's, but the was a long time ago now! )

Try it for a few washes, bobsmum - see how his skin reacts. I'm pretty sure lots of people use bio stuff after the first few weeks, if not from day 1!

Or you could wash it all twice each time...

I cant find a non bio that gets stains out.I use ariel bio but my dp does get a bit itchy

bobsmum · 29/03/2004 13:58

Mum2Ela - it's the enzymes in the bio powder that eat up all the stains. Is that right?

I use a non bio and use vanish or glow white on stuff with bad stains. this works well on school shirts which my eldest (son) gets tomato stuff all over, the baby is the cleanest one in the house it seems.
I use non bio as if I use bio it brings me over all itchy!

Have you tried Persil non bio, bobsmum?
I must admit we still use this all the time and let the bibs get blobby...it shifts most other things. We didn't find Fairy non-bio or own-brand ones worked as well as Persil.

Persil non-bio is what I use - never tried any others.
