New Baby and 3 1/2 year old - PUSHCHAIR ADVICE NEEDED - please help

I currently have a 3 1/2 year old with a new baby due shortly. I have a real nightmare about pushchairs, I had a Britax carrycot and pushchair for him and want to use it again so I brought a buggy board and a new chassis, but when I use the carrycot its too far back for my son then to use the buggy board !?! He's too big for all the tandem / double buggy's plus I really want to use my original pushachair as the in-laws brought it for us and they cost so much.
Surely there must be a solution out there !
Any advice greatly received.
Thanks Tracey

My ds was around the same age when dd was born and I made him walk. There were a few occasions when we were out for whole days and as dh was usually with us then we just took the buggy for him and the pram for her.

bootpolish, i have a similar problem, ds will be 3.5 when baby comes in july. i am relieved to see that mine is not the only 3.5 yr old not to just be walking, as opposed to buggy board or double buggy. but i know ds will not walk, i just know it. sorry not much help.

Buggy boards are definitely the answer. My ds1 had to use one from the age of 18 months (well below the recommended age limit but no choice). He is over 4 now and still uses it, so much so I am on my second as I wore the first one out. I've also sussed out that when going down hill you can hop on board too and skateboard down. You do have a fair degree of control over them as your arms are either side of where they stand and means they cant escape or just hop off that easily.

I'm afraid I'm a heartless 'get them walking' mummy. Dd1 was under three, but she didn't have an option.

What kind of parcel tray due you have on your Britax chassis.....I don't know of anyone else who does this but it works for me..

Put carrycot on chassis
Sit(yes SIT) ds on the buggyboard
Put his feet in the parcel tray.
Hopefully his head will be under the carrycot.

This works for my tall 2and a half year old who will not stand on the buggyboard but happily sits on it..he hasn't had any accidents yet.
We fitted the buggyboard so it was a far back from the buggy as possible..it's a little difficult to push but for the short time you need the carrycot for it may do.

Having said that I am now buying a E3 Explorer since it's the only tandem that fits kids up to the age of 5, and therefore the only one that ds fits into. But I'm buying it because of storage problems with my big buggyboard/pram combo.

Are you sure you didn't need the Kiddiboard ? It goes further back than a Buggy Board and ds was able to perch betwen the inside of the handlebars and the carry cot on our Silver Cross. The main problem I had was to flip it over in order to apply the bar brake as it attached to the centre of the rear axle. tbh we only used it a handful of times with ds who was 3.5 when dd was born.

When DS came along we managed with a Baby Bjorn and pushchair, and then at around 4 months switched DD to buggy board and DS to p/chair. Age agp is just over 2 years and DD was walking everywhere by 3.5. Weaning them off the bb can be tricky - we 'accidentally' left ours at Gran's house. Found that the extra exercise really helped come bedtime tho

Bootpolish, will DS really not walk? 3.5 is getting to the edge of buggyboardability IMO unless he's smallish (ie you may find it too hard to push). And I am the queen of buggyboards. Tho I haven't gone for Trifle's skateboarding method!! But you may well need a kiddieboard not a buggyboard with your pram. Ah, Sinclair, you and me with the bjorn and then the buggyboard, it's the best way. Didn't realise you 'left' it at Gran's house. I just told DS1 that he was having absolutley his last ride (he was 3yr 10mo and I had DD in the buggy and DS2 in the sling so I'm not sure why I even let him get on - it was a rare event by that stage!) What I'm worried about is what I do with DS2? He can't ride the board if there's no new baby. And I'm not prepapred to continually reproduce just to solve the problem!

As a slight digression there is a product called a Mamaboard sold over here. A sort of skateboard sized version of the buggy board designed for you to scooter your buggy along, getting yourself fit in the process! Funnily I've never seen one in action ...

smellymelly · 30/03/2004 13:13

we used a 'seat 2 go' by litaf, which is like a buggy board but has two levls so toddler can sit down as well.

Can't do links but you can get one from eDirectory.co.uk.

product no. is 880/1253495.

Hope that helps........

My dd was 2 1/2 when ds arrived and she walked i brought a double used once off a friend but it stayed in the cupboard and we gave it to dp's niece in the end

notcitrus · 03/02/2012 11:19

Does anyone know if any buggyboards are compatible with a Maclaren?

Ds is 3.5, dd due imminently, and my plan to have ds walking got scuppered a few months back when he moved up to preschool and started falling asleep on the way home each day, and being pregnant with SPD, I can't carry or chase him! Certainly not for 3/4 mile!

Don't use it for much else, and he still thinks going in a car is a Special Treat!
