I'm new - apologies if this has been done to death.

Have joined MN purely to grab a bit of speedy advice (again, apologies; will be sure to restore karmic balance by offering non-car related advice elsewhere).

ANYWAY... I get all the safety and reliability and pretty-boy features of this car. My question is, how expensive is it to run (fuel wise)? I'm thinking of getting a 2007 diesel model (maybe a 2005 / 2008 model). How much are you paying in fuel? How far do you get on that? Any fuel related advice (with money / figures) would be gratefully appreciated.
x

I don't have one of these, I drive a 2012 grand Picasso and find it quite fuel efficient.

I had a Chevrolet 4x4 hire car for a weekend and used £40 of diesel just driving from Twickenham to Bournemouth and back, this is far higher than my usual fuel consumption.

Like that car but can't help, have a similar size car, honda crv 2.2 diesel and it's about £50 per 500 miles x

Thanks both ... The search continues. Seeing this plus a Kia Caren today.... Also tempted by a Volvo c90. X

you will get about 30 MPG in one, what are you going to use it for? We had a courtesy one but it couldn't tow for shit. had one young Clydesdale in an old ifor trailer and it couldn't pull it without chewing out the clutch. I have a ford ranger which does about the same mileage wise but tows like the clappers, was hauling a 7.5 tonne lorry out a field at the weekend after it got stuck in the mud.

Thanks Xcountry... confused now as I'd heard it was great for towing (I'd be towing a mobile catering unit).... aghhhhh!! Was it expensive to fuel (without the towing)??? X

Depends what you think is expensive, I work in agriculture so That's about average for fuel, 30 MPG was without towing, we just don't look when the trailer is attached. what weight is your catering unit? the ifor is about a tonne on its own and the Clydesdale wasn't far off that itself so looking at towing about 2 tonne combined.

all the trucks manage it no problem, car wise: landrover discovery and defender manage it with no problem - freelander not so good, Nissan xtrail no problems with that or mistu shogun and pajero no probs either.
things like Nissan juke or quashqui have max towing capacity of 1400 (sp 1.4 tonne roughly) and a lot of the others are about 1500 so look at the weight you need to tow and the terrain you will be towing over too.

Xcountry · 27/06/2014 12:25

also -please don't be offended but when did you pass hyour driving test? if it was post 1998 you can only drive a max of 3500 without taking a separate trailer towing test (pre 1998 you can drive up to 7500) so you have to take the unladen weight of the car and add the laden weight of the trailer and make sure it adds up to no more that 3500 post 1998 (7500 pre 1998)

thanks... a lot to think about here...
