Which baby backpack?

Need to get a backpack carrier to take dd around in and have decided on the cosatto sherpa one. Just wanted to check that no-one had bought one and had any problems with it?

Yep, still trying to decide between a more expensive better one and a cheaper ok one. Decisions, decisions!!

Hi wobblyknicks

Assume you've had a good look at teh recent mumsnet survey. If not it's \linkwww.mumsnet.com/slings/here{}

Sorry should preview before I post - it's here

AussieSim · 29/03/2004 18:09

Samsonite black streamline backpack style. Doubles nicely as a handbag, can be OK when dressed up too.

GillW · 29/03/2004 18:26

Anyone else now trying to envisage a baby-carrier/rucksack thing which could double as a handbag, and can be dressed up..... the mind boggles

wobblyknicks · 29/03/2004 18:47

Thanks carrie - had a look at the reviews and they all look quite good, but I'm just not keen on spending that much IYKWIM.

GillW - am racking my brains to imagine it too! Have done a quick Google and all I can find is the Samsonite changing bags.

Ok, have just ordered the cosatto one, thought that even if I hate it I can probably eBay it for the same price.

WK, please post how it is as I'm thinking of getting one also but I'll wait for your judgement.

wobblyknicks · 01/04/2004 18:06

Yep, I will. Just want it to arrive now!!! Will probably be next week

Ok, have just checked my emails and got one yesterday afternoon saying it had been dispatched and giving me a link to the Interlink tracking thingy. Went there and it gives you all the details of what's happening. Apparently 10pm last night was HUB scan - don't know what that means, and at 8.10am this morning it was confirmed as being at the depot 12 miles away. Hopefully that means it should be coming any time.

I love the tracking service, I can see where my little parcel is as it works its way down!!!

(You can see I don't get out much!)

wk let me know what you think...as I said I think its okay (but I don't intend to be hiking up mountains with it...!). My only negative is the colour - beige doesn't really do it for me!

maomao · 03/04/2004 11:49

Yes, I'd like to know what you think about it too. My sister keeps pressing me to get a backpack carrier, but I really don't want to shell out the money unless it's really worth it (or if I can find one used). I continue to stuff my child into a sling on my hip.

wobblyknicks · 03/04/2004 12:43

bd - kiddicare do another one now in black and blue!! I had the choice of the two and thought beige was nicer!!!

maomao - I thought about a hip one but go out on public transport a lot and I really, desperately need something I can put dd in and still have both hands free. With a pushchair I have all the kerfuffle of holding dd and dragging the pushchair around so a backpack is going to be so useful for me. I'll try it out as soon as I get it and post what I think.

No sign of it yet, hope they don't wait until Monday to deliver it.

ahh well...it isn't going back! can't say I can see any difference between the two dispite the fact they have different names! You also get a changing mat with it!! ( add it to the other four.........!!!)

wobblyknixx · 04/04/2004 10:29

didn't know you get a changing mat. Yep, that will be four I've got then!!

still no sign of it - think that's mean for the depot to hang on to it just because they can't be bothered to deliver at the weekend!! Hope it comes first thing Monday, would love to use it!!!

wobblyknixx · 05/04/2004 12:46

Ok, it arrived half an hour ago and I'm very pleased with it (for £30!!!). It's very snazzy (well, for Cornwall)!! DD's not so impressed but she's in a snotty mood anyway.

It feels quite heavy on the shoulders but I may be doing it wrong!!! But I'd be happy carrying it even if it will always be mostly on the shoulders. There's 2 straps across your front - one above your tits and one round your waist so that makes it feel really secure. The waist and shoulder straps are really nicely padded and there's 2 pockets on the waist, handy for purse, keys, phone, dirt etc. It's really easy to use and get to grips with (got to be if I can use it!) and the bag that fits onto the back is huge, so I can easily put all dd's stuff in for going out. At a push, I reckon I could fit everything I need in for a weekend away! (Not that I'm going to get a weekend away mind!)

Natch, it doesn't seem quite in the league of the bushbaby one but its not quite in the same price league either. My only minor worry is that it won't quite make the upper age limit in comfort but I haven't tried so I don't know for sure. And even if it's only useful for a year or so, that's fine with me.

All in all, I'm really pleased with it - arrived really quickly, does exactly what it says on the tin. Really easy to use and really comfy. Bd - I even like the colour too!!

Hercules - I'd definitely get one if I were you!

hercules · 05/04/2004 12:49

Thanks wobbly!

Will do!

maomao · 08/04/2004 20:14

Thanks for the update, wobblyknicks. Does your dd like it any better now that you've had it a few days?

Blackduck · 09/04/2004 07:18

Glad you likw it wk....Ds spent another lunchtime sitting in his, being fed risotto (saves luggging around a highchair...) and was quite happy!

wobblyknicks · 21/04/2004 09:28

Sorry, completely missed the extra posts on here!!!

maomao - dd think its hilarious!!! She thinks its great fun being so high up and bouncing around the place!!! I'm really glad I bought it, its so useful.

bd - that's another good plus, I've always got a chair for her everywhere I take it.
