I'm afraid I don't know of one. I also don't know why my 15m ds's car seat has lovely bland grey straps then a HUGE bright red coloured release catch, designed to attract bored kids sticky fingers! Absolutely no help to you, but lots of sympathy!!

JackieNo · 06/09/2006 21:53

Would this do the trick? Depends how wide the straps are.

ja9 · 06/09/2006 21:55

my ds started doing this too. apparently there is a clip you can get to clip together the two arm straps and so preventing child from freeing his arms. i think you get them in catalogues such as blooming marvellous, or oooh, can't remember the other one - is it perfect people or little people or something... i got my buggy weights from it - will go and search.

Can you fasten the two shoulder straps together across the chest so she can't get her arms out ? There used to be a pad- rather like those on the shoulder straps) available to wrap around both or a clip like this . If she were older a bawling out might stop her.

I had to resort to telling Ds that if he didn't keep his straps on the police would come and take me away!!!

He has never taken them of since.

cleaninglady · 06/09/2006 22:12

i need one as well but then was told they are not recommended as harder to release in an emergency but i weighed up risk of ds being injured if i had to abruptly stop against needing an extra 10 seconds to get him out of his seat?

i tie the two straps together with a sock

starshaker · 06/09/2006 22:12

no matter how tight they are she gets out. she clibs out of everything

Have you moved the shoulder height of straps up recently It may be worth adjusting them down a notch (assuming it is safe to do so)and pulling really firmly. Otherwise you could improvise something like a pad which velcros around sports bag handles to join them together.

Reece · 07/09/2006 22:11

Gee god did our parents have problems like these???

They didn't use car seats for most of us so just opened the door and in we got. No worries about straps and oblivious to the dangers of driving without seat belts, safety seats etc.

desperateSCOUSEwife · 07/09/2006 22:14

Tbh I stop the car and refuse to start the engine until they are strapped in

once told ds3 to walk home if he didnt put seatbelt on

and police are coming is a good one too

There was a very sad story in the news yesterday about a 2yr old who was killed by airbags going off in a low speed impact while standing in the front of the car. She and her twin had got out of their seats when their mum stopped for petrol and, because they were only 400 yards from home, she'd strapped one in the front seat and let the other stand tbh I think we were all pretty lucky not to have been hurt as kids unstrapped in the car, even if traffic was less heavy back then.
