Did your child's school uniform fit, or did you alter it? If so, how?

Just spent this afternoon hemming DS2's new school trousers.
Also need to put a tuck in the waistband of his new shorts as the right age/length ones are way too big round the waist.

Tried to phone a local sewing company to do the hems, but they had a three-week waiting list .

Fortunately I have a sewing machine with a blind hemming stitch, but it was still a PITA to have to do.

Do you manage to find clothes that fit? Or pay someone else to do it? Or do a real botch job?

Altered dd's swimsuit as smallest size was still too baggy around top and crotch so took it up 2 ins on shoulder ! Also take hems up on her "spare" summer dresses which were bought secondhand but a bit of a botched job, similary ds' trousers. Have folded over the cuffs on dd's blazer and winter coat too !

dd's new trousers fit her ok
luckier with pinafores as length isn't an issue
didn't bother with summer dresses, will wait until spring term!

but what a pita I agree

yes - it's boys trousers which are the real pain - and I can guarantee if they fit now they will be too short by Christmas

Our school has gone to trousers for girls this term (optional) - I bet all the Mums will be cursing when they realise it's more of a pain than skirts....
