Baby gates

babygate

We currently have the babygate shown about BUT it's not safe and ideal for our stairs. Its currently pressure mounted against a stair wall and the stair bannister. This issue is that the bannister is rounder and the pressure pads on the babygate have split and were never really secure. ie they kept slipping off etc.

HELP what babygate should we have for the stairs..??? It need to fit onto the staircase bannister that is rounded iykwim. If you need pixs of the bannister shout and I will try and post one.

How about this one?

I have these and one of the ones you have and the fittings are shaped differently.

would a gate like this that clamps round the newel post be better? They sell the clamps seperately too on their own site and there are some on Ebay too.

Not actually seen a UK stockist but it looks like a solution you could copy with bits from B&Q.
Or you could use hose clips or even cable ties to attach flat bits of wood to the newel post and give the gate pad something flat to 'bite' on.

I've got the Lindam one from argos, not sure how to do a link though. Its one that you screw in to the wood, we've got curved bannisters too and its fine. Also doesn't have the bar that pressure mounted ones have so its safer on stairs. Costs £16.99.

why don't you get one that you actually screw onto the wall/bannister.

shhhh · 05/09/2006 14:20

thanks everyone. The problem is that the bannister is a weird shape. It's not all round it's round in 2 bits iykwim so the screw in ones won't work I don't think as it's a strange shape to attatch it to......

I will post a picture on the members profile and try and link it for you to see..

Thanks again

pix on it way...Just spoke to a helpful guy at safetots and he recommends this one...
stairgate

BUT the bannister is weird shaped and the measurements I have discovered are differnt. The bottom from the skirting board on the stairs is around 80cm's yet the measurements from the rounded bit of the bannister to the wall is 85cm's and no stairgate fits this size...Well not one thats compatable with a "y" spindle anyway ("y" spindle apparently is Y shaped and goes from the end of the gate to the bannister to fit a curved surface..magic..!)

So we can risk getting this one BUT because it's not long enough along the top section we would need to attach a bit of wood to the wall...mmmm dh is not the best DIYer in the world...

Why can't we have a straight forward home....

shhh, your picture hasn't made it to member profiles - perhaps have another bash? Making it smaller often helps

shhhh · 05/09/2006 15:47

Ooopss. It says it exceeds the size.. go on Mrsbadger, how do I make it smaller..??!!

open it in Photo Editor or whatever you use, then it's probably Edit, Image Size and make it half whatever it is at the moment?

shhhh · 05/09/2006 16:17

tried but i'm not the best at IT. Still won't do it...DH is an IT consultant so will ask him once home....look out for it later xx
