Vote: swing, rocker or vibrating seat for newborn

Can I have a mumsnet vote please?

I'm due to have a new baby soon - got a 2.5 yr old toddler already.

Which is the best kind of baby seat?

Dd1 had a vibrating seat - these seem cheap, stable, and from about two months she started to enjoy the vibrating and the toy bar.

I have a friend who swears that a swing saved her life - she said her twins loved it and would spend hours in it, even falling asleep. Cons - to me they look more likely to be tipped over by toddler, more likely to be broken by a toddler trying it out for size, not very flat for a newborn and quite expensive.

Rockers - a different kind of motion - cheap cheap cheap - likely to be over-enthusiatically rocked by helpful older sisters?

Please vote which one is most entertaining for newborn, safest in the presence of a toddler and all round best value.

Many thanks!

I had all three! It was needs must, home alone all week with a 3 yr old when the DTs came. I loved the swing, it gently rocked out wind when I was feeding another but they do get v sleepy and you don't always want them to sleep.......

At age 2 my DTs still want to go in it. It needs a new home, you're not in Scotland by chance?

We had a swing and a vibrating baby seat. Swing was v sturdy with wide legs and would have been v hard to tip over and there'd be no chance of a toddler trying it for size - DS was too big for it a 7 months.
Definitely our best buy. He slept in in when he was tiny (during the day) as it reclined quite far back, it comforted him when he was squirbly. He loved it

They're light to lift but you do need a bit of space.

i had a bouncy chair that vibrated which lasted quite a while , good for weaning etc

swing was great as dd3 was breast fed and got quite clinging and they fell like they are still being held (appaerntly-your baby may tell you different )

Swing definately. Guaranteed to get ds to sleep when nothing else worked!

I had a vibrating bouncy seat, but found the vibrate a waste of time; neither DS liked it.

What age can you use a swing from? They didn't look very flat to me.

I've just ordered this one....mostly because it's such a bargain

we have both a bouncy chair and a swing with music. my ds seemed to like the bouncy chair better earlier on and looked too 'scrunched up' to be in the swing until recently (four months) we borrowed the swing and bought the chair 2nd hand as both have a limited life (particularly our bouncy chair as we have a big baby!) but I guess it depends on whether it will be used again both have withstood manhandling from our 3 yr old.

hi
i had a vibarting bouncy chair first but it broke and i got a vibrating rocker a ruin one from toys rus for about thirty quid so quite cheap, don't know what i would have done without it it had two types of vibrate and had a littlearm you could put done if you didn't want it to rock she was really collicky and this was great for getting her to sleep the only thing was washing the cover and getting it dry before she woke up in the morning!!

tinkerbellie · 01/09/2006 14:18

ooh your picking a neglectomatic dontch know.

(according to the daft bint on that AP show last night)

i had a swing for DD and it was fantastic. it kept her off the floor so i didn't have to worry abouot ds fallin on her, dog sitting on her and an icould hover round her.

it would swing and ply music and she loved it.

Swing. Back and forwards one, not the terrifying side to side one that my step sister was given.
