Loads of companies do it

NomDePlume · 30/08/2006 20:39

Or there's purlfrost....

we used a spray to mist our windows, it looked good until it cracked due to condensation

NomDePlume · 30/08/2006 20:41

Yeah, the frosting in a can is a bit dodgy. Doesn't weather well. You are much better with frosted window film on a roll

My DH did all our pub windows with it (had some nice intricate designs cut in it first). It is fairly easy to apply if you put water on the window with a tiny amount of washing up liquid in it. That way you can move it around to get it lined up perfectly. The crucial bit is to have one of those window squeegee things to get as much water as possible out of it for a smooth finish. Then it will need about 24 hours to dry out properly. It can look great. Dh also did a huge mirror in one of the bars with our 'crest' and everyone thinks it is proper etched glass.

My father in law has this on his windows as he lives in a basement flat and doesn't want people looking in. No idea where he got it from though but I'd never heard of it before.

Noticed today though that my neighbours across the street have some on their windows, which I though was a bit odd as the house is set back from the road and to look in you'd have to walk right up to the windows. But then they are a very odd family.

A company called Brume do them and have lots of different designs. We got all of ours through them and they were great. Easy to put up just be careful when you are taking the backing off once it has set for a while.

We got some quite cheaply from a ironmongers, was tucked away with other sticky back plastic designed for covering kitchen doors and stuff.

The film is called opal frost www.windowfilmdirect.com/opalfrost.html

I would recommended a professional installation though as its a bit fiddly to apply.
