We've just bought an Ikea leather sofa and reclining chair - fab so far, but we've only had them about a month, so no idea how well they'll wear.

nailpolish · 30/08/2006 15:11

which one did you buy jacs?

I've got the brown leather Arlid sofas. They're quite comfy, and are wearing well so far, but I've only had them for six months. My one minor complaint is that they're not very "squashy", and a bit cold to sit on.

nailpolish · 30/08/2006 15:45

yes thats what im worried about - cold and not squashy

but dh is insisting on leather

if you want leather but are feeling confined to Ikea because of the price, check out Chesterfields Direct as they have more traditional shapes at remarkably reasonable prices.

Have had ours two years and it still looks as it did when it arrived, but it will look even better as the leather ages. It's different to a fabric sofa and needs scatter cushions to be really cosy but isn't hard or cold to sit on and is wipe clean, the advantages of which cannot be overstated!

JackieNo · 30/08/2006 15:53

It's this (but in just a 2-seater, I think) and this - and it's pretty squashy, and not too cold. Mind you, our previous sofa was huge, far too big for our room, and had annoying feather filled seat cushions that needed plumping as soon as you sat on them, so we were keen to have something less squashy, on purpose.

nailpolish · 30/08/2006 15:55

mrsB - they are hideous! sorry. i want modern, not chesterfields

Jac, they are very nice. i think i will have a look at them when i go to ikea

We have Ikea 3 sofas - 1 leather, 2 fabric. All are OK although the leather sofa has suffered slightly due to DS jumping on it.

nailpolish · 31/08/2006 12:20

have persuaded dh to go with fabric (thank the lord)

does anyone know if the 100% cotton slipovers are washable? do the slipovers keep good shape? TIA

I just bought 2of these - Vienna model... and they were even cheaper on Wednesday ! This is after I went to Ikea on Tuesday and nearly bought an ikea one... thought these were better value....
Bought plenty of other things from Ikea though

misdee · 31/08/2006 12:33

i usually wash mine every other month ,depending on how grubby it is. just havent had time this summer

covers are washable, and you can replace them as well if you want.

I am aiming to get mine washed tonight, and i even tumble dry them on low

nailpolish · 31/08/2006 12:39

Yeah but it's a bed too and I paid mine 450 they are now 700!!!! And I was incredibly lucky as I bought them on Tuesday at 17h50 (10 mins before shop closed)... and the next day they were 700!

bea · 01/09/2006 18:51

i've got two ektorp armchairs and they look really good when the covers are washed.. they are in the kiddies bedrooms (bedtime reading chairs) so not used for huge amounts of time i.e. stuck in front of telly!... but they do fluff up really well and like misdee said tehy do come up well once washed... now that no.3 is on the way i'll have to buy another one!!! - they make great cross legged breast feeding chairs (my preferred position!)

Joolstoo · 01/09/2006 18:52

Ektorp is tres comfortable - they were in our holiday let for several years and we've got them here now until our new ones come - they had plenty of bums on them but they're still going strong.

liquidclocks · 01/09/2006 18:55

we went to ikea - found some we really liked, then went to furniture village and found almost identical ones (chunky, comfy brown leather, very modern) in furniture village and they were £400 cheaper! (for a 3 seater and a 2 seater)

btw did a classic ikea shop yesterday!...

went to get a few bits and bibs (wouldn't spend more than £40) and came out with all sorts of knick knacks... not prepared to divulge the amount...

needless to say lots of little things for under a fiver but when lumped altogether.... Gulp!!!

pointydog · 01/09/2006 19:58

Yes, we've got two Ikea sofas and had them for four years now. Can't think of the make - uuuhhhhhh, no, can't think. Have kept their shape very well, washable covers, comfy, pleased with them.

Check out the cushions - some of them have more flimsy, saggy cushions. My cushions haven't sagged.
