I am looking for a double buggy for DS and my new baby (due in November). DS will be 2.5 by then. I don't think our budget will stretch to a new one but I am in the process of scouring the local papers, car boot sales, charity shops etc. I was just wondering if it would be better to get a side by side model or one of the ones where the toddler sits in front of the baby.

I have a side by side one for dd 21 months and ds 7 months, I didnt like the idea of ds stuck behind with nothing to see. Also they can be more awkward and heavy to push espcially if you have to life it up a kerb. Have you tried ebay aswel? Incidentally I have one with the option that they can face me or the other way round, I prefer them facing me, purely because I got sick of people flicking cigarette ash into the pram onto my children when I was walking behind them!!Hope this helps

We have been using a double buggy for three weeks since dd2 was born - it's a 3 wheeler - 'Out & about Nipper' and it's fab. DD1 is 23 months, they sit side by side facing forwards. It is roomy enough for both of them and fits through standard doors - not many of them do! Only problem is that is does not fold up very well to go in the car and if it is in the boot (Ford Focus), not much else can fit. It is dead easy to handle - I go for walks through the woods with it and can also negotiate Next. I would highly recommend it. I think it was about £250 new but I have since seen loads of them on ebay.

I love my Mountain Buggy terrain and have gone on about it endlessly on here.

They are expensive (even second hand) but you should be able to sell it on for the same money you paid for it.

I also had an E3 (double decker one) but disliked it.

I have been looking into this as I am pregnant with my second, and ds will be 22 months when this one is born. The Mumsnet top recommendation is the Out and About Nipper like Weeboagie has got, and this is the one I will probably go for as it looks great and handles well AND gets through most shop doors. Also, although it's expensive, it's actually a lot cheaper than most good double buggies.

We've got a Maclaren Twin Traveller (side-by-side), which is great. The main reason we bought it was that at the time I was driving our 'second' car, a Ford Fiesta, and it was one of the few that would fit in the boot! It goes through standard doors, including our front door, so most places remain accessible.
I would highly recommend it, and I still use it now when I have to keep dd (nearly 3) and ds (18 mths) under control (eg in a shop with lots of breakable things!). Look out for one at Kiddicare or on ebay.
I haven't used a one-behind-the-other type, but I hear they're hell on your back when you're trying to get up kerbs/steps.

we are getting a Jane Powertwin - its a 3 wheeler with younger in front , baby in back. Its a dream to push. Fairly expensive new, but we've got it second hand. The side by sides are tricky as the older child gets heavier - can be quite awkward to push if you're doing any distance. I have a school run every day so needed something sturdy and easy to push. gap will be about 20 months

pinkmagic - where are you?

I have a M&P Twin Aria for sale with raincover and one cosey toes. Looking for £50-ish but i dont really want to post if i can help it x

pinkmagic - i had thte mcclaren one, and hated it, if u can budget for something a bit more durable then do. iused my regularly and took it on holidays 3 times. it was a crock at about 20mths old and i donated it to charity.

on its plus side it did fit thru alot of shop and house doors for a side by side model.

in hindsight jane powertrain would have been better or a phil and ted at enormous expense
