There was a thread on this-is it floor boards? if so Farrow and ball floor paint was recomended.

bobsmum · 23/03/2004 12:40

Oh - I'd like some tips too. We want to paint out bathroom floorboards. Previous owner painted them and they look a bit naff and peeling, so we'd like to redo it properly.

Need really hardwearing and reasonably moisture resistant stuff.

Is Farrow and Ball readily available or would I have to hunt for it?

CountessDracula · 23/03/2004 12:42

You can buy farrow and ball online. Think they have a list of stockists too.

I painted my living room floor with it. It is peeling a little in the doorway where the dog stretches and scrapes it with her paws every morning, but otherwise is sound.

Farrow and Ball are known to be quite good quality. 'International' do some hard wearing stuff as well.

Whatever you use, it must be floor paint specifically formulated for floors or the stuff will peel/wear off in no time. It's also got be oil based (as opposed to water based) which is unfortunate because it stinks the house out.

Some of the colours can be pretty naff though.

fio2 · 23/03/2004 13:03

we used ronseal but it was rubbish. International are suppossed to be better

bobsmum · 23/03/2004 13:04

How should I prep the floor - do I need to sand and prime or just bung down the paint?

CountessDracula · 23/03/2004 13:04

The farrow and ball colours are great, they do their whole range in floor paints.

DaddyCool · 23/03/2004 13:12

I don't think you should have to prime. The floor paints tend to pretty adhesive on their own. You'll definately want to give it a sanding and remove anything that is lose.

We painted our kitchen floor last year with Fired Earth ordinary emulsion then used yacht varnish on top which was fine. However then the new floorboards shrank & had to be filled which made a right mess, so now it needs to be done again. Hasn't peeled though, it's pretty tough.

fairydust · 23/03/2004 15:48

it's not floor boards it's a ceramic tile floor (i think) in the kitchen we've looked at International paint just wondered if anyone had tried it???

Farrow and Ball have an aluminium based primer that they advise you use with floor paint

MrsGrump · 23/03/2004 16:00

We painted concrete floor in conservatory and it flaked something awful; maybe it depends which paint you use, but I wouldn't do it again. ARe the tiles not very nice?

fairydust · 23/03/2004 22:00

the tiles are minging there a horrible dirty grey colour - we're going to have alook at international paint 2-morrow i think

I did my dining room with International - over a year ago now and no peeling.
