Baby doll for DD's first birthday

I'd like to get DD a doll for her first birthday. I don't want a rag doll type or a totally soft one ie this but I don't want anything too huge, or expensive .

Don't ask too much do I?

John Lewis do a sweet one in their Mischief range, It's got plastic head, arms and legs but soft body. I think it's eyes open and shut. It comes with a sleeping bag, snowsuit and dummy and it's £12.

Mothercare do a Fisher Price one called Little Mommy. It's soft bodied but hard limbs again. The face is a bit odd because it's got teeth but it comes with a bottle. DD was given one for her 1st b'day last week and she loves feeding it. It's about £12 too.

Idris I am buying a doll from misdee for dds 1st birthday. Think she is selling them for around £25

IdrisTheDragon · 28/08/2006 22:18

They both sound good - I will have a look at them .

I'm pro Baby Born but they are expensive & quite heavy. My dd loves hers to bits.

Olihan · 28/08/2006 22:23

We looked at the Baby Born/ Baby Annabel type for dd too but a friend of ds has one and dd isn't really strong enough to lug them around!! I think they'll be a 2nd b'day prezzie as she's definitely showing signs of being a real 'dolly' girl.

Have bought dd a My First Baby Annabell Set from Argos, complete with outfit etc. Was £16.99 and is quite cute. The doll is smaller than the regular MFBA, so perfect for dd's chubby hands! She got a doll similar to the elc one for her first xmas. HTH

IdrisTheDragon · 28/08/2006 22:25

I quite like the way the my first baby annabell one is "non function" .

hmmm, nemo has one reserved that i will be workin on when it arrives rom USA, and i have to check it, they are restored 80's My Child dolls, I am having problems getting cheaper dolls, as it seems that there are a heap of new collectors who are bumping prices up atm.

when is dd's birthday? my personal collection these ones arent for sale, but gives u an idea.

CrotchetyCow · 28/08/2006 23:09

My DD (14 months) has thisone
I paid about £9 for it. Soft body, hard hands, head and feet. It seems to be just the right size for her, easy to carry and she has been kissing it and cuddling it.

IdrisTheDragon · 29/08/2006 11:42

I think it's between first baby annabell and first baby born .

Still got a few weeks until her birthday (20th September) but want to get organised .

we got dd3 a baby doll (soft body, winmyl head) and buggy set from toysrus, it wa s a major hit.

LIZS · 29/08/2006 11:52

dd had this one at a year although it says from 3 now. Soft bodied, closing eyes and no small parts . Also would recommend Corolle dolls which are soft and detailed.

fattiemumma · 29/08/2006 11:57

misdee i love your dolls. i want on with dark hair if you get one finished. pretty please

DD has a few dolls. ASDA do one that is soft body and plasitc arms head and feet, its about the right size as well.

she loves it. i think it only cost abut £10. wheras she was bought one of the baby Bjorn thingies that cost about £40 and its slung in the bottom of the toy box.

misdee · 29/08/2006 14:24

Fattiemamma, dark haired ones will be more, but will keep my eyes out.

fattiemumma · 29/08/2006 14:26

ok..send me a blonde and i'll get some L'oreal

misdee · 29/08/2006 14:30

actuallym there is a way of dying them, i'll look into it and see what i can do.

BettySpaghetti · 29/08/2006 14:50

We bought DD a doll and accessories from ToysRUs when she was 2. I can't remember how much but it was really reasonable -doll with soft body and plastic head and limbs, couple of changes of outfit, bottle, dummy, feeding bowl etc.

The Baby Annabel etc type ones tend to be really heavy (not to mention expensive!!)so avoid those.

Jensmum · 29/08/2006 15:34

My friend got one from woolworths (my first baby doll £4.99) for my dd's first birthday 3 years on it's still her favourite.

WishICouldGiveUpLotsOfThingsAc · 29/08/2006 22:37

Does anyone know if you can still get dolls with those feeding bottles which look like they have milk in them?

Sorry if this is a really obvious question but dd has only just appeared to become interested in dolls and I haven't looked at them for over 30yrs

divamummy · 29/08/2006 23:08

dd is only 17m so she has gor little ones from elc, and toysrus. if dolls too big it hard for them, dd actually carries them on her arms around the house.
cost only 7pounds or more

divamummy · 29/08/2006 23:09

wishcould give work,
sorry what a long name i think those ones are baby annabell with milk bottle

nooka · 29/08/2006 23:44

My dd had the woolies one as a gift three or four years ago and still at nearly six adores it, sleeps with it every night and takes it everywhere. The fact that it is permanently asleep doesn't seem to cause her any problems at all, and she (the doll) has a highly imaginative life. She has lots of clothes from Petite (although it is harder to get stuff for 12" dolls). I bought her a Baby Annabell a couple of years ago, but we threw it out within a year because she never played with it, and then it started to turn itself on and make sucking noises and start crying on it's own, which was creepy...
Oh, and you can get those bottles from most toy shops (as well as with Baby Annabell)

LIZS · 30/08/2006 09:56

yes you can still get those bottles where the milk vanishes.
