don't worry Christie I won't chuck anything at you...
I do see your point, but it's only for "play" and just pretend make up... would never let her wear it out...

I think Boots do little lip gloss sets that are in colours that are pink enough to please your dd but discrete enough to stop her looking like a Fleetwood hooker after a long night

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 15:14

This has loads of stuff, but is quite expensive (and says from age 6).

JackieNo · 26/08/2006 15:16

Or get her this ?

bagpussmice · 26/08/2006 15:18

saw a huge box in Costco for under a tenner but it had so much stuff in it... and that castle looks just a bit tooooo much, but thanks anyway

If you can stand Disney stuff ? (Not keen, personally) Possibly even more OTT than the castle one.

LIZS · 26/08/2006 15:20

I'm with you Christie, but fear dd might get given some for her b'day.

nearlythree · 26/08/2006 15:34

Totally with you, Christie. I was encouraged by my mum to wear make-up very young and it definitely contributed to me doing stuff that was way too grown up when I was a teen, IYSWIM.

twinsetandpearls · 26/08/2006 15:47

I don't think that bagpussmice is going to send her daughter out in a full face of make up. My dd has a tube of pale lipgloss and some sparkly stuff for her skin that she loves to put on when playing dress up, I don;t quite think that is going to result in her swigging cider and offering blowjobs behind the bikesheds by the age of ten.

nearlythree · 26/08/2006 16:46

Thanks for that, twinset, that makes me feel so much better. Not.

misdee · 26/08/2006 16:50

my girls have make up, just the kids sets like bagpuss is looking for. and a powder puff that makes them and anything surrounding thenm shimmer. i always tell them its for play only, and not for going out in. they are 6 and almost 4.

twinsetandpearls · 26/08/2006 16:56

Didn't mean to offend anyone, it is just too easy to obsess and agonise over things. Letting your little girl wonder about with juicy written on the bum of her tracksuit may encourage her to grow up quickly, allowing her to wear havel gazing lycra and crotch skimming skirts with daft barbie heels will probably also do the same but a bit of lip gloss will do no harm.

You didn't offend me, it was me that offended nearlythree

Thomcat · 28/08/2006 23:07

I had a palstic lipdstick when I was a kid. Just looked the part, didn't actually do anything.
I don't like playmakeup for a child as young as 5, but that's my personal opinion.

nearlythree · 28/08/2006 23:09

twinset, I'm not bothered. It's just that when I try and think back to why I behaved the way I did, I know that thinking I was more mature than I was played a big part, and that stemmed from the way I'd always been encouraged (In all innocence) to look older and was therefore treated as older. I don't want the dds making the same mistakes that I did.

Skribble · 28/08/2006 23:12

Nice sets in Boots designed for girls, agree nice for dressing up but not out, DD gets to wear pale pink lip gloss (lipslave) occasionally out but I still cringe if MIL does her nails even if it is the palest pink, but i don't like nailvarnish any way always looks chipped and crappy.

Jbck · 29/08/2006 19:33

DD almost 5 gets to wear the Nivea Care for lips occassionally it's got the palest, palest pink gloss to it & she eats it off before we're more than 10 minutes from home anyway. She's usually more than happy with pretend compact etc anyway.

noonar · 29/08/2006 19:48

my dd, 4.5 is obsessed with makeup. i hate it but my attempts to deter her merely encourage her!i refused to let her have any for ages, but my mum kindly bought her a magazine with a freebie make up set... grrrrr She'd never wear it out tho. i also hate teen fashion on 4 yr olds...off the shoulder tops etc...it's horrid.

gegs73 · 29/08/2006 19:57

Tesco do nice little kits for girls. All very pale colours for playing.
