Right, next kitchen design dilemma

Do we go for fab, user friendly but ever so slightly Footballers Wives American fridge freezer with ice and water dispensers?

If so, could just fit one in - they all seem to be 900mm - but would be better if was 800mm. Anyone know of anyone that does them that narrow?

If not, what sort of normal fridge freezer?

Retro? Modern Stainless Steel (back to cleaning issue there!) Bog standard white jobby (already have so would save money but not big enough.

Or does someone know of some other sort of fridge freezer that is a must have?

probably not TOO badly, but they do produce some heat.

obviously you'd have to keep the tumbledryer miles away from there.

I am about to do the opposite - dismantle my ancient larder complete with massive slate shelves in order to bung the washing machine and dryer in there out of the extremely messy and muddy boot room. I'll survive without anywhere for dh to keep his stinky cheeses I think!

CountessDracula · 19/03/2004 12:15

Ooooh send me a slate shelf!!

Drying machine going in outbuilding as hate thought of the noise in open plan Lebensraum.

Could put wash mach in kitchen, but noise factor again (though would be behind cupboard, and usually set off at night or during day so not a prob).

I love the thought of somewhere for the stinky cheese, does ruin it keeping in the fridge

I hate washing machines in kitchens - food and clean laundry don't mix
Can't you put washing machine where dryer is? pain having them separated. you could mount one on top of the other. that works well...

no, sorry! slate shelf will be recycled for use elsewhere at pph towers, as everything else is...
but you can pat it when you come for a coffee

CountessDracula · 19/03/2004 12:22

...and stroke?

Well I could have WM and dryer together but would lose larder, which I want to keep. Outbuilding is just outside back door.

Don't forget I only have ONE child, so laundry not quite as onerous as in your house I should imagine (plus nanny does most of it so do I care?!) Plus do dry things on radiators/line to be more eco friendly (not towels of course). I just like having a dryer for occasional use.

Sh*t just remembered am bricking up that back door. Will have to go out other french windowy back door to get to tumble dryer.

Back to the drawing board....

in one house we rented we had wm and dryer UPSTAIRS near the bedrooms (in understairs cupboard). It was so sensible, because that is where most of the laundry is generated and needs to go back to. can you put in anywhere there? in a big bathroom or somewhere? saves lugging loads up and down the stairs for no reason.

CountessDracula · 19/03/2004 12:29

I do have a huge cupboard that would easily fit them in the 1st floor bathroom BUT some twit has put the little tanks for the system that (allegedly) gives you mains level water pressure all over the house in JUST the wrong place, I would have to get them moved about 2 inches to fit wm and td in. Still, could do I suppose.

Then I would lose my lovely big airing cupboard though

Though have vast cupboards in one spare room where could easily store linen.

Hmmmm

have just found out that you can get dryers that don't need an outlet (condensing apparantly) so may look into that and put in cupboard in spare room.

What about a combined washer dryer? - good especially if you only use it occasionally - and for towels of course! Combined washer dryers are condenser types, so you won't need an outlet - but you will of course need plumbing! You'll need plumbing even if you just get a condensing dryer on iys own - it needs somewehere for that water to go (plus I think it uses water to "condense" against).

CountessDracula · 19/03/2004 13:05

I thought they had a thing that collects the water that you empty

OP posts:
JanZ · 19/03/2004 14:38

Maybe they do - I've only ever had a washer dryer which obviously needs to be fully plumbed in!

Sorry for misleading you!

Crunchie · 19/03/2004 14:53

CD some condenser dryers do need plumbing in, they are the posh ones!! Others need emptying. Personally from all you have said CD I would try to put the washer and dryer in the bathroom, losing an airing cupboard is a pain, but having other storage means you can stash those lovely tablecloths for KS somewhere Or if the washing machine fits into the airing cupboard without moving tanks, then just put that there and the dryer in the big cupboard in the spare room (cheap dryer with a tank that gets emptied). Then you have the airing cupboard, and the larder - I wouldn't want to lose my larder. Our washing machine and tumble is in our downstairs loo - as soon as they pack up I am getting nice new ones that stack with a condenser dryer and a proper cupboard. Unfortunatly even though the door of the TD has fallen off, and the washing machine has loads of dents, THEY STILL WORK! The washing machine is about 8 yrs old, so hopefully it will die soon

SofiaAmes · 19/03/2004 20:28

CD these people have the best radiators . They do one that is 2 meters long and only 210mm wide so it can fit low under things or into a skinny tall wall space. They will also do custom sizes for not too much money. Their rads are very modern, but I think they fit very well into older settings too. Mention my name and you might get a discount.

CountessTablecloth · 20/03/2004 15:09

Thanks SofiaAmes, they look awesome. Could just have a disc on the wall! Will show to dh

countess the name changes are spinning my head. Yes I love the round one. I am hoping to put one in my loft conversion. I have two square ones with towel bars in two of my bathrooms and the long skinny one in my third bathroom. Couldn't afford to put them everywhere in the house.
