Potties - can anyone recommend one?

DS is nearly 2 and is showing interest in using the potty. However the one we have was part of a newborn gift set (why?) and is basically too small. Unless he is careful (which let's face it he isn't) then his penis ends up poking over the lip at the front!

I know potties are quite cheap but I'd rather get one on recommendation to save trial and error.

The Mothercare potty chair is bigger - ds can get his willy in quite easily (we had exactly the same problem with the first potty we tried). I'll have a look for a photo.

True DS has been known to miss when on the toilet let alone a potty. But now is very careful.

dd loves it as it's nose squeeks.

hiya. we have 2 throne-like potties from baby bjorn- like a little seat with a back with the bit in the middle that you can take out and empty. lots of different colours so ds could choose which one he wanted. he liked it so much we got another one for upstairs and at same time did as twiglett did and put a soft loo seat on the toilet, and now he uses anything and is v happy to go on a normal toilet when he's out. the whole process was i think in hindsight very easy for us but we did wait until he was 2.9 years!!

Thanks. I think he's too young for a children's loo seat - not yet two and gets a bit scared when put on it. Plus he also likes to pee standing up sometimes. Has to peer round his belly to see tho which makes me laugh.

Freddie!! You read my mind! Great friends thik alike (great minds I know,,....but you know...)

I want a potty for the 'larger little gentleman' too!

geogteach · 18/03/2004 09:52

Baby bjorn was good, there feet actually hold it in place when they stand up (hard to explain but look at one and you'll see what i mean)so you don't get those stand up and the potty is stuck to the bottom moments!

My ds started sitting on his potty backwards because 'that was the boy way'. I think his childminder showed him that but it definitely meant fewer puddles on the kitchen floor. Some potties don't look that comfy for sitting 'backwards' but the higher lip is useful.

I used a musical potty for DS at the age of 3, yes very late I know. It has a 'willy guard' which is removeable and is a little better than the normal potty shape. Also it makes a waterfall sound when they wee, and plays a tune when they stand up.... good for rewarding without sweets etc.

Quite pricey at about £20, but it converts to step and seat for big toilet too. Also has a lid, handles and the potty bit comes out for easy cleaning.
