Philips Baby Monitors ...

Has anyone got an analogue one? If so, what are they like - do they pick up every sound, ie. baby breathing?
Thx

I have a Phillips monitor, not sure if it is analogue or digital, got it when DD2 was born a year ago although actually use it for DD1. It picks up her breathing, the clock ticking in her room. It also has a talkback button so you can talk to them (useful for telling them to go to sleep or else !)

this is the Philips one that I have, doesn't say anything about being digital, so assuming it's analogue.
I had a Tomy Walkabout for dd1 and ds, but that was useless, we constantly had static and the lights were always flashing. I much prefer the Philips, no annoying flashing lights, no static, doesn't pick up dd2's breathing, but even on quite a low volume we can hear her 'moaning' and'groaning' when she's waking up. Would definately recommend this one if you don't want the distraction of hearing every little sound.

We've got the analogue Philips, and it's got a very useful sensitivity setting so that you don't pick up every sound. We used it on holiday in a cottage by a fairly busy road, and set it so that it only transmitted if dd cried, and not every time a lorry rumbled past. I'd recommend it.
(I assume you don't want to hear everything? Don't rely on a baby monitor to listen for breathing - you'll go spare with anxiety! A motion detector would probably be better for that.)

Thanks everyone ... I think I will try Philips next! Prettycandles ... yep, I would like to be able to hear him breathing but not cos I'm being paranoid more to be sure that the monitor is in range cos I'd like to be able to take DS1 out to the back garden if DS2 is napping but be confident that the monitor is reliable enough that I'll hear him if he so much as squeaks!!! Lucysmum and Ailsa ... I'll have a look at your models!

ps. any idea for where I can buy on-line bar John Lewis & Argos ...

Our monitor tells you if you're not receiving a signal (ie you're out of range or have a flat battery). Most of the top-of-the-range models do. Don't know where to get them on-line, though - got ours from JL.
