HappyLand stuff from ELC, any good (ie will it keep them quite for hours whilst I flick through a magazine?)

They are into small figures and putting things in and out of houses at the moment so am thinking of getting a few sets for birthdays in the coming months.

Oh brilliant! We got a few of the rip off sets in Asda at the weekend - £2.36 in the sale and they are obsessed and more importantly DO NOT FIGHT.

My mum and sister are under instructions to get some sets for dd2 (2 this month) and dd1 (4 in October) but I was worried it would be a fad.

We have the 'Little People' sets which I think are similar?

We have the -

Garage
train station
Fire engine / ambulance one
Park
Fairground
Zoo
Castles x2
Noahs Ark
Village
Farm

and the others! Occassionally I set them all up - they link together and I get so much peace and quiet!!!

We have collected quite a lot for DD who was 2 in May. We have the play mat, cottage, tea rooms, post office, village accessories, garden set etc. I think it is good because it is chunky but 5yo DS likes it so that they can play together. And it is good that he is playing with her stuff rather than her tagging along with knights/playmobil/starwars figures etc. They do play well, apart from DD's unfortunate tendency to plonk herself in the middle of the mat causing outrage in DS. I am sure you can picture the scenario. Also we have two cats and they have to have one each, which is fine until one is misplaced!

We have a similar Little People collection to Tamba, and we also have some Happyland bits thrown in as well and all 3 of our children love it (dd 6, ds 3, ds 2). They love pulling it all out and setting up a whole town... taking up the entire dining room! I would say that you would have plenty of time to read a magazine or 2!

Bozza · 16/08/2006 12:15

DD is very good about not putting things in her mouth. Hence I am letting her play with the playmobil, starwars etc unsupervised. However she is not much over two and the figures are just much easier for her to handle, put in the cars etc.

we started dd off with happyland and she now has quite a lot of the sets from us and friends/relatives. I think its great. She is nearly 3 now and loves it to bit and can spend ages with it just happily telling the characters what to say to others. Certainly a great thing to start with as I have found it has grown with her as she changes how she play with it.

gets better and better, keep the good tales coming please!

Bozza - lol at sitting in the middle of the mat, I have an image of dd2 doing precisely that. Have just bought the mat actually, and a set of wedding guests that were reduced from £6 to £4.

dd is three and has been accumulating FP Little People since she was one and has a pretty big collection. I personally prefer it to the ELC range but I think it is more expensive.
She was playing with it for about an hour yesterday and her 6 year old brother joins in too.

Hattie05 · 16/08/2006 12:57

Its fab! I have collected sets since dd's first baby - she is 3 now and it has always and still is a favourite of hers. We have enough to make a real little town and it probably is one toy which keeps her attention the longest. I'd imagine she'd still be into it for another couple of years if not longer.

The other good thing is, she is either amused for hours trying to set it all up herself or, i can build her an elaborate town and she will be amused using it for imaginative play so it kind of has two uses.

madmarchhare · 16/08/2006 12:59

Yep, DS has loads of it and loves ot. The fire staion is his favourite. He calls the firemans pole a 'plug hole'.

oliveoil · 16/08/2006 13:00

What is the difference between the Fisher Price and the ELC ones?

Don't tell me I am collecting the 'wrong' ones now please..........

xx

Would definitely recommend it - keeps my 2 dd's (5 & nearly 3) entertained for hours.

LucyCampCat · 16/08/2006 13:23

My girls love the church too - if you can stand hearing 'Hear comes the Bride' over and over and over and over........ alternated with church bells!

Happyland rocks

I have had a look, but dd2 is getting 2 sets this weekend and a mat for her birthday so I think I will see how they go for now.

I will get the vet set I think.
