MrsBadger · 15/08/2006 09:58

I'm rummaging for the threads but have both the 2005 and 2006 reports here on my desk if you wanted stats on a specific seat

MrsBadger · 15/08/2006 10:01

link to 2005 test report here

will keep looking for this year's

Xena · 15/08/2006 10:08

Safety standards for child seats continue to rise, so some of the seats we recommended last year are no longer Best Buys.

Of course, using any child seat is better than using none at all, and last year's Best Buys still offer much better protection than other seats on the market.

We don't consider price when choosing Best Buys, as we recommend only the safest seats.

Price: £125
Score: 74 %
The first Isofix for newborns - very easy to use and performs very well.

The design uses a support leg, which means this seat is only semi-universal, so it won't fit in all cars, even if they have Isofix fittings.
Britax Cosy Tot Premium
Price: £95
Score: 71 %
This Best Buy is very easy to use and adjust to provide good comfort.

Good performance in front and side crashes, with excellent head support
Britax Duo Plus Isofix
Price: £190
Score: 70 %
Easy installation with Isofix mounting points and good performance in a crash make this seat a Best Buy.

Its performance is also satisfactory when using the car's seat belt to attach the seat.
Britax Hi-Liner
Price: £37
Score: 71 %
A good performer, easy to use.

This Best Buy seat does well for one that caters for two weight groups.
Concord Lift Evo
Price: £85
Score: 71 %
Very easy to use, this Best Buy also gives children a good view.

See our ratings information below to find out how well it performed in our tests.
Concord Lift Evo PT
Price: £90
Score: 74 %
Children under about four years old will tend to slump forwards in this seat, but there shouldn't be a problem above this age.

Instructions and installation are both easy to understand
Concord Lift Protect
Price: £80
Score: 72 %
This seat is easy to install and gives excellent head and leg support.

See our ratings results below to find out how it performed in our tests.
Maxi Cosi Cabriofix (with Easyfix base)
Price: £102
Score: 75 %
Easy to use and adjust.

Risk of injury is low in a front crash and acceptable in a side crash. This, combined with excellent head support, makes this seat a Best Buy.
Maxi Cosi Priorifix
Price: £220
Score: 74 %
Heavy and pricey, but offers good protection.

A top-quality seat that is easy to install and gives good leg support with comfortable padding for the child
Maxi Cosi Rodi XP
Price: £72
Score: 72 %
The best overall performer from 2004, this seat still makes the grade as a Best Buy.

It's easy to use, comfortable and gives good overall protection in a crash.
Maxi Cosi Tobi
Price: £160
Score: 70 %
The harness design on the Tobi is particularly good - it 'springs' out of the way to let your child in, so you don't get tangled up when trying to do up the harness. Good safety score, too

SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 10:11

OP posts:
Xena · 15/08/2006 10:13

SC if iirc the trio was one of the worst buys as it came apart in a crash? can you turn it into a booster seat?

MrsBadger · 15/08/2006 10:16

they didn't test the Trio this year but last year it scored a rather crap 23 out of 100 and was blacklisted as a 'seat to avoid'.

The only three-stage carseat (ie 9kg to 11 years) they tsted which did ok was the Britax Evolva 123 Ultra which scored 58/100

SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 10:16

wil give the trio a miss i think..its on the seats to avoid list

SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 10:18

shes 2 xena

OP posts:
SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 10:30

mrs badger 58/100 isnt a brill score on the evola, now dd is 2 i want to put her in a seat that will preferably take her up to 6 years, shes very small for her age so cant go in one of the 3 rd stage seats till she is about 4 the rate shes going. shes in an eclipse s1 at the mo which i noticed didnt do too brilliantly eiher, one of my reasons for wanting her out of it, and she doesnt find it comfy.

OP posts:
SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 10:40

bump..help me find a car seat!

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 15/08/2006 10:50

Caligula asked a similar question yesterday about stage 1-2 carseats and the best I could come up with was the Evolva. I know 58% doesn't sound that good from the Which test, but at least MN rates it .

Xena · 15/08/2006 10:53

TBH the which report says that carseats that cross groups 2/3 don't do well DD2 (who is 2 as well, were you on the july 2004 thread?) is in an ever older model britax (the freeway) as it was the only seat that let her sit between DD1 (in her britax hiliner which I got because it was a which best buy) and DS2 in his baby car seat. I was hoping that she would be big enough to sit in a hiliner by the time DS2 had grown out of his baby car seat. But it seems that this is not going to work as she is tiny and he is big (so already at the top of his carry car seat).

Anyway enough about me and back to you
What car do you have and how much room do you have to fit it? Do irc that you have 5 yourself?

SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 10:53

looks like the evolva then, i will at least get lots of use out of it, better start saving though!

OP posts:
SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 10:56

xena-yes i was on the july 2004 thread cant beleive dd is 2! she is very petite and currently in an eclipse which didnt seem to do so well, ds is in a high;liner and like you i thought she could go in it, but she wont fit in it for another 2 years i dont think.
it needs to go in a zafira with no isofix fittings, ive no other car seats in there as the older 2 are teens.

OP posts:
SpaceCadet · 15/08/2006 11:10

forgot to say xena, have plenty of room for car seat, cany use the middle buckle though.

OP posts:
SpaceCadet · 16/08/2006 16:09

just got back from halfords...125 pounds lighter thats money not weight..gee whizz, ive just had to buy a car seat which is suitible from birth..for a 2 year old, and only goes up to age 4, its the britax first class si, i dont know how it did in reports but its basically the only one whichwould fit in the car.
he looked at my current seat and said, thank god youve never had an accident..as it had buckle crunch, he tried, the maxi cosi priori..buckle cruncxh, the evolva which wouldnt even sit on the seat properly and the mamas and papas pro tec, which had no buckle crunch but wobbled badly, he tried the first class as a last resort..im cross though that i didnt buy the first class a year ago asnd annoyed with vauxhall for making the buckles too high..grrrr
