Help me find a DIGITAL CAMERA for FIL's birthday

He will be 70. I need a user-friendly, good quality point and shoot type. Preferably something 'sturdy' although not too bulky. He would not be impressed by some of the tiny models around atm!

Simple software a plus so he can do a little editing if needs be before emailing pictures to relatives abroad. I would imagine he will print a few pictures, but probably not enough to merit one of the little photo printers. Enlarging not a huge issue either so don't need loads of megapixels.

Budget is between £100 and £150.

Any suggestions?

HI, I have a brilliant 7mp digital camera that i got from argos.
Was £330 but when i got mine it cost £165.
Last time they were advertised they were £114.

They also do 5mp that i got for my Dad who's in his 70's and i think that one was under £100.

Samsung Digimax A7 and A5

Hope they still have some!!!!

Thanks, will have a look on Argos' website.

Was wondering about the Sony cybershot?

ds has a cybershot..it's very small

dd has a kodak easy share which is a doddle to use

the canon ixus is good but i think that is a bit more

Gillian76 · 13/08/2006 09:36

I was just looking at some of the Kodak models.

I think the Ixus is quite small too, is it?

yes it is

I recommended the kodak one to dd because it was highly recommended on here and she wanted something easy and cheap..it was only about 70.00

Go onto Ebuyer. I got a Kodak C310 (V basic, v easy to use and not tiny) for £34.99+ Vat. It's reconditioned but looked new when the box came.

gscrym · 13/08/2006 09:46

This is the one I got.

Easy to use camera

Gillian76 · 13/08/2006 16:09

Not sure DH would go for a reconditioned model, but the Kodaks look good.

Any other suggestions?

we got the kodak 330c recently - very easy to use and seems to take good pictures. Also very light - small but not fiddly. was about £70 from amazon - we also got extra memory for another £10.

Gillian76 · 13/08/2006 16:37

Does that one take video, throckenholt?

yeah - little bits - not sure exactly how long - we got it for mum (65) so I haven't had much chance to play with the finer details - but it was really easy to use - I was impressed.

I just ordered a CANON PowerShot A430 for £154 through a site called megaoferton
It also comes with a printer, paper,512mb card, ink and bag.

I know its a bit more than your budget but it seems like a great starter package.

Gillian76 · 14/08/2006 00:07

Looks like a good deal, jenny. Like I say, I don't know if he'd use the printer, etc much, but will add the camera to the shortlist
