Hello everyone

I posted this under a different thread yesterday and got a few good replies. My dd has had a cough for ages and i decided to buy a humidifier for her room.
I got one from Argos yesterday but it's a monster and you have to leave doors open and it's just too big.
Does anyone know where i can get a little one?

if only, our one has taken over the only bit of speare space in DS room

I suppose it because the resevoir for the water has to be large enought to take water for a whole night.

Have discovered a Vicks warm mist 'Vaporiser'. Smae thing but quite small and obviously not all timed like the one from Argos, anyone had one?????

Angeliz - I did exactly the same thing and it's now in my hall waiting to be picked up by Argos !

My nanny found a small vaporizer thingy in Boots which cost £20 (and is the size of half a large grapefruit IFYSWIM) and you fit small pads soaked in eucalyptus/menthol etc oils. I used it the other night myself and it was great

when my dd had croup i soaked a bath towel (ring out until not dripping but still very wet)and hang it on an over the radiator drier. Cheap and easy, can rewet towel when you go to bed if later than child. doesn't take up much room space and dampeds the air nicely

katzguk, i have been doing the towel thing for ages and it doesn't seem to be working,

vivat, mine's in the hall too! I wonder if Argos is used to all us imlulsive mothers taking it home then realising we should've done a bit of research

I've ordered a Vicks one for twenty quid!+

We have the Vicks one and the Boots one. We didn't want to go down the towel on radiator route as we didn't want to have to leave the radiators on all night.

The Boots one is fine for blocked noses but seems to make sore throats/coughs worse. The Vicks one isn't so good for blocked noses as it doesn't seem to release the same amount of menthol etc, but it does pump out vapour all night - leading to steamy windows in the morning (we've never kept the doors open) - and does seem to go some way to moistening the air and helping sleep. Its about the size of a single pack of Huggies and you fill it with water and add some smelly oil (sold separately) to a reservoir on the top, steam comes out and blows over the oil picking up the vapours.

You do have to watch out for dd/ds tripping on it/its lead next morning and spilling a fair few litres of water over the bedroom floor. One problem we've had is it needs regular descaling to keep working well (we've got apallingly hard water here). You do have to order them - I called every chemist in the region last winter and no-one stocked them but one ordered me one and I picked it up two days later.

HTH

Thanks for the tips Bear
I think the reason the towel isn't working is that central heating is timed so it's probably worse!!!
Yes, i rang about 10 Chemists yesterday before i ordered it online!
