We are buying a new used to car if thacf makes sense and ahve about £3K to spend. We have narrowed it down to a Fiat Multipla or A Rover 75 estate from about 2000.

We like the roominess of the Multipla and the quirkyness of ot, we do a lot of self catering holidays and tend although we only have one dd we do have a large dog and dp drives people to work. Am a atd worried about driving and parking the multipla which is wide.

But i prefer the look of a Rover 75 and have had one before and loved it, but would you buy a rover? What happens when you need parts.

QueenPeaHead · 08/08/2006 19:24

zippitippitoes · 08/08/2006 19:26

The Multiply is cooler than cooler IMO.

Only seriously funky people drive them, I wish I had one

DO NOT get the Rover!!!!!

I've just lost my lovely, wonderful 416! I'm still really gutted, as I loved it, they're cheap to run, never failed an MOT, dead easy to drive, dead comfy and relaxing to drive, really high spec for low cost, but......................

In 3.5 years we had to replace the head gasket twice, and got rid a few weeks ago cos it went again. At a cost of £1000 a time, not worth it. The car was only 9 years old.

All Rovers are prone to this including the 75, my garage said they had one in with only 21K on the clock.

But, if you still want to go for the Rover, parts are still just as available as they were 2years ago. Caterpillar UK used to and still do supply all RoverMG parts.

GarfieldsGirl · 08/08/2006 19:47

Oh god, I must sound like a right weirdo, but I loved, loved, loved my car!

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/08/2006 19:55

Def get the multipla. I was worried about parking mine, but actually found it really really easy, as the visibility is so good in it. It actually isn't any wider at the bottom than most cars, but looks it simply because it retains its width all the way up, whereas other cars narrow as you head upwards.

I drive a 2002 Rover 75 work car and it's great but costs a fortune to service, and has had 3 or 4 major faults already, clutch replaced etc. It cost £380 to service (no major part replacements). Try to get some info from which.com which will give you much better info than a bunch of preggy ladies ! You need to take into consideration fuel consumption (major issue these days), servicing costs, reliability, and mostly, safety. IMO you'd be best off with a Toyota or Honda for reliability. Don't rely on us for such a serious decision (but here's my penneth anyway !)

longwaytogo · 08/08/2006 20:05

Have to agree with cantsleepwontsleep I have no probs parking ours especially backwards. We have 4 dc and it gives us soooo much room - we love it and wouldn't touch rover with a barge pole

MrsJohnCusack · 08/08/2006 20:05

oi
I may be pregnant - (don't think the others all are though) - but TSAP did ask!

and your post didn't exactly paint a glowing picture of the Rover 75

EvesMama · 08/08/2006 20:06

multipla hands down!..just wish i could afford one!

twinsetandpearls · 08/08/2006 22:17

Thalia lol I am not relying on solely on your testimony.

We once had a Rover 75 as a company car and it never failed us, was a lovely car and dh at the time said it was a great drive.

Dp is now dead said against the Multipla because of the small boot.

WE have looked at Toyotas, Hondas and the like but I find them all so dull, all look a bit too much like a Vauxhall Vectra for my liking.

psst I am also asking for help buying a mattress if you want to pop over there!

oh I LOVE my multipla [gush emoticon]

but then I have 3 ( sometimes 4) kids and do school run for 5

and no dog

I find it very easy to drive, its slightly wider than most cars but short. very good visibility

twinsetandpearls · 08/08/2006 23:16

Everyone I know who has a multipla adores them, I am now on the multipla side but dp is veering off into strange forbidden terroitory - and I am not talking about the bum bandit thread!
