Cordless telephone/ answerphone recommendations

I've been looking for a new digital cordless phone for the last 10 days but just can't choose. I want a twin pack really (as we are always loosing one or leaving it upstairs) with an answerphone (with a decent recording time) and a decent size phone book.

I bought a Philips onis vox pack from argos for £120 but when I got it home there were 3 messages on the answerphone from the "previous owners" trying to set it up. Was not impressed at all so took it back. Argos were very apologetic but I'm not paying full price for what might be a second hand phone!

In a way quite releived as paid extra for an SMS phone but realised its a bit of a gimmick anyway so not bothered about that now. The NTL one from Argos looks good as does the new Siemens - but I just get flustered everytime I try to choose.

Anyone recommend one or tell me what to avoid?

Janh, thanks for that, not exactly right cos this 3 pack doesn't have answerphone but great site- think i'm gonna go for a synergy 3pack with answerphone. guess what? all on order from bt cos (allegedly ) so popular.

We've got a digital Binatone at the moment, and yup it's rubbish. But that's also why dh isn't convinced by digital - and he's an electrical engineer!

BTW, John Lewis have a special offer on one of the BT Synergy two-pack sets, about £90 ATM.

lou33, sorry I logged out to get home to upset dd2...I come from between Liverpool & Manchester and have 2 daughters..and you?

bundle · 17/03/2004 12:26

(not in order to upset dd2, but because she was upset )

Janh · 17/03/2004 12:53

LOL, bundle

lou33 · 17/03/2004 14:19

Bundle. No I am a southerner. Just that a friend from school days apparently lives or works in that area in radio. She does have 2 kids though iirc.

Katherine · 17/03/2004 14:26

Yup - I started this thread because the binatone broke!

Are any of the other BT phones compatible with the diverse? Could you buy a diverse twin pack and then a cheaper extra one. Presume you wouldn't necessily need ALL the features on all the phones?

good point. we don't really need features to be honest- anyone know about compatitbility? i might have to bite the bullet and call BT

madgirl · 06/04/2004 16:15

just thought i'd add a footnote here, in the end we went for a BT Synergy trio pack with answerphone and v pleased with them. also- we got it through ITXL from ebay- only £99 excellent value and service. thanks for your advice everyone.

FWIW, twiggy, we have:

Synergy cordless (forget model no) answerphone + 1 matching handset
Panasonic cordless
BT corded
misc corded

it's a crap arrangement but we get by. Love the idea of full matching set with same numbers in memory on all phones (esp as kids keep changing mobiles and I never learn those numbers in the first place) but it's not essential...also IME cordless phones are never where you left them or there when you want them.

I had a BT diverse 5350 but wasn't too keen on some of the functions. Eventually, I upgraded to BT Diverse 7450 - I find it much easier to use.

I’d imagine the OP bought some and they’ve long since been assigned to the bin
