I have no idea, nor does dh. What's the difference between Gameboy advance, and SP? Does it come with a charger, or do I need to buy one seperately?
I want to get him a selection of games, but not violent ones. What has the best selection?

Are ther Gameboy alternatives I should consider?
Must be handheld for car journeys and so it doesn't tie up the TV, and least price possible (I guess it'll be about £70).

hey,

gameboy advance is handheld and sort of like a rectangle shape. the SP is like the next one up and its more square and folds up.

The SP has a backlight (like a mobile) but the advance doesnt so the SP might be better for you if hes gonna use it in the car.

They are battery operated, and come with an ac adaptor plug. obv. you can get rechargable ones.

if you go to a gamesstation or similar they sell them pre-owned, buut still in good condition and they are a much more reasonale price then new.
hope this helps x

nintendo ds has very good 'family' type games

you can get an old style one with a game for about £90

the new nintendo ds lite is about £119

ds(8) has had Gameboy Advance SP for about 18 months. tbh it has been a godsend for travelling. Having the light is great and it is rechargeable, which came with it. He has most enjoyed the games related to films like the Incredibles and Narnia. Software costs between £15 and £30 new but there are some which have 2 games on. You can sometimes get a game included in the package.

Arrrrrghhhhh

Now someone has mentioned a Nintendo DS Lite on another thread of mine.

They look expensive. Will there be the same range of 'suitable' games available for a little boy (who isn't allowed to watch things like Power Rangers)?

Oh, someone must have the definative answer for me?

There are lots on Ebay. I would go for the Gameboy Advance SP because its the smallest (relevant when travelling) its pretty tough (we have only ever killed one after much use whereas we killed a PSP within one month of buying it) and there are lots of secondhand games available on Ebay. Secondhand is fine, the cases always scratch immediately anyway and everything else is pretty tough.

Thanks 3Mum.

I have been looking on Ebay. The nintendo ds things look really expensive, and the Gameboy SP looks a better bet to me.

Some company in Hong Kong is flogging them at £69.99 a pop, inc postage, with good feedback. would that be a good bet do you think?
