Can anyone recommend a good wooden dolls house? Are Plan Toys the best, and if so , which "model"?
Or is there a better alternative?

We got one of the Plan Toys ones for our daughter for Christmas, it's in the Letterbox catalogue, don't know the model name, but it's about £100 (Big treat but they're pretty indestructible, and quick tip, if it's for a birthday, ask friends/family to buy room sets) The great thing about it is that most of the walls, doorway, windows etc can be removed and re-arranged, very easily so it changes all the time. I love it!

We gave our DD a Play Plan doll's house, too. It seemed a bit sturdier than the ELC one, although I think that is very acceptable, too. DD's having more furniture for her birthday (there's a choice of contempory or Georgian) and you can add a basement and a mansard roof.

Sorry, I meant Plan Toys!

I think John Lewis sell wooden ones too.

My auntie got my 3 girls a gorgeous fairly open plan dolls house with 2 floor and an attic.Plus loads of furniture and dolls. But to be honest they rather play with the Big Red Fun Bus or the yellow teapot house. How old is your DD??

Oh yes, another vote for the Big Red Fun Bus. My daughter played with this EVERY day for about 18 months.

Thanks to everyone so far for their helpful comments.(by the way,I do not have a DD but a DS!
He is just 3 years old and is the 5th of 5, all boys!)I have always tried to give them a wide variety of toys and the houses in the plan toys range do not seem too "girly".

I bought DD the Plan Toys "terrace" wooden house for her birthday last October at Costco. It cost USD $80 (approximately 55 GBP) and came with the family of dolls, a cat and a dog (with feeding bowls), furniture (sitting room, bed room, kitchen, and bathroom) and an outdoor playset. DD enjoys it, but I must admit I am the one who is obsessed with it and have since gone on to purchase the baby/high chair/crib etc. set, a children's bedroom set (I made my mother sew little blankets for the bunk beds!), a little set of plates and bowls and other kitchen items, and a set of appliances! What I like about the Plan Toys house is that it is very sturdy and it is easy for DD to reach inside to move the dolls around, etc.

During the height of my doll house mania, when I would spend hours scouring the net for doll houses sites, I did find some UK based sites that had fun doll houses: my favorite was www.cottage-toys.co.uk.
