Can anyone recommend a very relaxing music CD that dd1 can listen to before she goes to sleep?

she has requested one

I have given her Bach goldberg variations but don't have anything else suitable

Not being funny, but ds's favourite is a hideous new-agey rainforest thingy we got for £2.99 from Woolworth's. They had this big stand with about 30 really naff cds on ''Celtic Dreams Experience'' ''Whalesong Harmony'' that sort of thing but you can play samples before you buy.

Within 10 mins of putting it on, both ds's are out like lights.

this might be too young for her but it is lovely. Not awful "£1 production presents" but 'proper' music and she has a beautiful singing voice.

here

I think I have that in the attic yorkiegirl, will check thanks

think she'd like something folky

she has a black beauty story cd and her fave bit is the music at the beginning it sounds quite like Vaughn williams or delius or someone

we were given a lovely one called 'bedtime with the beatles' - which is lovely, 'classical sounding' guiter versions of beatles songs - very relaxing

MrsBadger · 04/08/2006 10:22

Elgar cello concerto?
Actually I made a classical chill-out mix for a friend's daughter recently...
[rummages through iTunes]
[fails to find it]
Anyway, I picked slow movements out of different pieces - she particularly likes choral music so I lifted 'I know that my Redeemer liveth', the Pastoral and some others from the Messiah, and 'If my tears be unavailing', 'Have mercy, Lord' and the final chorus from the St Matthew Passion.

Was just going to aks if you could create your own Enid !

I made one with, Vaughan Williams, alittle Hoslt's Planet Suite, Sanctus from Faure's Requiem, couple of bits from Sleeping Beauty etc etc.

Of course, he thinks it's girly, but it does work wonders on long car journeys too!

MrsBadger · 04/08/2006 11:03

found Marianne's Choral Chillout
Lifted out of iTunes so formatting's a bit screwy:

Adagio 6:20 Bach Concerto for oboe & Violin
Contralto Aria 7:46 If my tears be unavailing St Matthew Passion (Disc 3/3)
Bruch Con For Vn & Orch No.1 in g, Op.26 9:09 Adagio
Contralto Aria 6:44 Have mercy, Lord, on me St Matthew Passion (Disc 2/3)
Mendelssohn Con For Vn & Orchin in e, Op.64 8:02 2nd movt: Andante
Chorale 2:28 O Sacred Head St Matthew Passion (Disc 3/3)
Clarinet Concerto in A: Adagio 8:54 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
No. 13 Pifa 2:53 Marriner, St. Martin in the Fields Handel: Messiah (Disc 1)
No. 45 Air Soprano: I Know That My Redeemer Liveth Handel: Messiah (Disc 2) Chorus 7:09 In tears of grief, dear Lord, we leave thee St Matthew Passion (Disc 3/3)

and if she'd countenance 'modern' folk, Norah Jones or Beth Orton are both worth a bash - we use them for us as morning-after-sleepless-night, ease-into-the-day music

My ds is listening to the M&S Lullaby CD. When I bought it all the kids CDs were 3 for 2 so I got 3 for £10. I can recommend the action song CD too

You say she'd like something folky - this Celtic Lullaby CD worked very well for my son:

James Galway - any compilation (though avoid Flight of the Bumble Bee if poss) - used it for 3 of ours, worked like a charm (still would I think )
