Can you recommend a child-friendly music reference books?

I'm looking for a fairly comprehensive music reference book (or several if necessary). The main information I need it to contain is:

a) Basic biographical information of a wide-range of composers
b) Summaries/explanations of different musical styles and movements, and the main proponents of those movements
c) Explanations of musical terminology - Italian terms (e.g. dolce).

We already have The Usborne Introduction to Music - it's rubbish: very bitty, though quite attractively laid out.
We also have an ancient Oxford Children's Music Dictionary/Guide/Encyclopaedia-type thing, which has lots of information in, but is not terribly appealing.

Does anyone have the Oxford Children's A-Z of Music? Is it any good?

What age range is it for? I can't think of anything off hand, I've got plenty of adult music reference books but no children's ones yet.

I used to be a Mini IQ Associate and I remember we used to have this one

magnificentmusic book.

I was very impressed with it at the time. Not sure if this is the kind you are looking for.

That looks more like a tutor than a reference book to be honest.

Sorry, I've been away for a couple of days, and just got back!

It's for ds2 - he's only 7 atm, but I guess I am thinking of something aimed at say 10-14 yr-olds in terms of content. An adult book would be possible even if it's user-friendly and attractive.
