Not sure if this is the right area to post but hopefully someone will have some knowledge.
Car has died, clutch completely burnt out (I think?) does anyone have any idea how much it will cost - gulp, am dreading a huge bill. It's a rover75.

Mine was a grand, but it was quite a high performance car.

O my god, I feared it would be a lot of money Sad

If I was going to pluck a figure out of the air I would say about a thousand, but it depends on the car and how easy it is to separate engine and gearbox. The parts are dirt cheap, it's the labour that costs.

Well, I say dirt cheap, just looking on ECP and for the 2.0 petrol engine they're ranging from 140ish up to 450ish; the diesel kits seem to be cheaper. A garage may charge more than that for parts.

Clutch is really dear. Our 2 cars needed a clutch at the same time. I was quoted £800 but it needed a flywheel so the final figure was more than double that. DH quoted £450 plus flywheel so went to Mr Clutch and paid about £300.

I was quoted £1200 by citroen for a C5 but I refused to pay as it was a manufacturing fault and the car was still undr warranty.

You don't specify which engine it has. If diesel it will probably need a new flywheel - not sure if the petrols use dual mass flywheels. All of them will take 5-6 hours so expect £300-500 labour plus parts. If DMF required then look at about £1k all in. If no DMF then £400-600 all in.
