Is there such a thing as a colouring book with beautiful and arty pictures in? (or I would even settle for not just total shite, really)

I am no doubt going to get laughed out of town for this but I find the standard of the artwork in children's colouring books really depressing. It is invariable the lowest common denominator and looks like it has been dashed off in 30 secs by a GCSE student. The subjects are mournfully bad as well - animals with big eyes and eyelashes, and today (this was the last straw) a boy eating candy floss standing on a cloud, floating in space.

There must be something better than this - where is it? Is it too much to hope that we could actually colour in something that looks nice?

LOL that about sums them up doesn't it SEA?

"some we've had look like they've taken about a min and the illustrator was worse for wear."

Although I am wondering if the originator of the Cunt coluring book was also a little the worse for wear when they came up with the idea.

F+Z I am chortling here at the last Supper indentation.

FanjoandZooey · 30/07/2006 08:31

It was marvellous Pruni, you had to stand at a certain angle to see it and then it would appear in all its glory. It's probably still there.

MrsBadcrumble · 30/07/2006 08:33

Where? I feel the need to make a pilgrimage.

FanjoandZooey · 30/07/2006 08:36

Here , Pruni.

You can in fact see the very table on that page, however, disappointingly, the Last Supper apparition doesn't seem to be mentioned in the description.

It's a bloody gorgeous little cottage if anyone wants a weekend away without their children.

MrsBadcrumble · 30/07/2006 08:42

Looks lovely. I wonder what the religious conversion rate is after a holiday there?

FanjoandZooey · 30/07/2006 08:52

Pruni I also wanted to say best of luck with the move and we will miss you very much

I keep meaning to say it but our paths never seem to cross lately

MrsBadcrumble · 30/07/2006 08:57

I am planning a few months free though.

MrsBadger · 13/08/2006 19:58

has taken me a while to find this thread but came across this colouring book by actual artists the other day and thought it was worth a link, especially as it is free to download.

(you may want to remove the page that says 'Please don't get a divorce' though)

We love Rosie Flo's colouring books - they have very intricate pictures of lovely dresses and gowns to colour in (very 1950s in style) and then leave space to add your own drawings of head/arms/legs etc underneath a hat or tiara that is already drawn in. Sounds weird but is utterly gorgeous and very unusual for girls 4+
