New clio or golf?

We are currently driving a 3 door corsa but we are looking for something with a bit more room in the back.
We only have 1 Dc but travel a few hundred miles to visit family every few months so we want something comfortable for the long journeys
I do like the new model clios but I'm worried that it will be the same space wise as our corsa,
We would be looking at a 10 plate golf, I do like the scirrocos but they are slightly out of our budget as we are hoping to stay under £9.500
Any thoughts?

Neither. Get a Kia Cee'd or Hyundai i30. Much better value, much better warranty and likely to be better built and more reliable.

You could even have a brand new Dacia Sandero with a 7 year warranty and have change. Great value!

Scirrocco is very cramped in the back, so I wouldn't recommend that. A Golf would be excellent, but for the same money you could get a Kia or Hyundai with many years of warranty left.

I've not looked at kias but wouldn't go with a Hyundai, my friend had a minor bump in hers (front end) and the damage for such a small impact was quite shocking
I'm thinking of a golf as they come up quite well safety wise and don't lose much value
I'm going to test drive a clio next week but I will also have a look at some kias

Most modern cars look heavily damaged after small impacts. It's what they're designed to do to protect the occupants.

Hyundais are good

zombiesheep · 14/01/2014 14:57

Much better than a golf or Clio IMO

Sunshineonsea · 14/01/2014 14:57

It didn't look too bad on the outside a few dents but there was quite a lot of damage under bonnet, but when you put it like that it does make sense, better to have a broken car than a broken body

A new i30 btw generally has a better safety rating than a 2010 Golf. Adult protection is slightly lower but every other area scores higher including child protection. I know which I'd rather crash with my child on board.

It's quite normal in modern cars for small collisions to be very expensive to repair. I wouldn't expect the Golf to be any cheaper on that front (in any case, that's what insurance is for).

A Skoda Octavia is a good alternative to a Golf: it uses the same mechanicals, is cheaper, and more space inside.
