WHY

Caligula · 21/07/2006 22:11

Cod - because apparantly (if my memory serves me right) the absence of pedals and stabilisers means they have to use their feet and that when it comes to getting on a real bike, they'll be used to the balancing so won't need stabilisers.

Is that right? Or am I talkng bollocks?

bran · 21/07/2006 22:12

NQC is that the Lidl half way between you and me, beside the sorting office?

BettySpaghetti · 21/07/2006 22:12

Thats what I've heard too Caligula.

TC -glad I could be of use!

Goodness Cod, there have been loads of these threads before.

They're easier for younger kids to ride than trikes or bikes-with-stabilisers. They help kids learn to balance. They're lighter and easier to carry than regular bikes.

My DS1 has a likeabike, and it's beautiful, very very popular and very practical. Until our recent move to using big bikes for everything, he used it to go to and from school at a fast adult walking pace (it's about 1 km or so), for the last two years.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/07/2006 22:13

Yes, that's the one, bran. Couldn't see bikes in the online flyer, but definately saw it there on Monday.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/07/2006 22:14

Oh, and TC, a friend's DS, who has (I think?) Williams Syndrome, absolutely loves DS1's likeabike, even though it's far too small for him. I think his parents were looking for a larger likeabike sort of thing for him.

bran · 27/07/2006 10:43

Damn, I missed it. I was there at 9.40am today but they'd all gone. I don't think they had very many though as the empty display space where that had been was quite small.

prettybird · 27/07/2006 10:51

I'll have a look at my local Lidl tongiht or tomorrow night. Last time we had supplies for weeks afterwards - even came on here to let people know,'cos I could have got one and sent it to them at cost, but didn't have any takers.

So, if my local Lidl does have any still avaialble, does anyone whose failed to get one ,ocally owant me to get one for them and send it to tthe for the cost fo the bike plus postage?

bran · 27/07/2006 11:00

Thank you for offering PB. Wouldn't postage be horrendous though? I imagine a wooden bike would be pretty heavy.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/07/2006 11:01

We were at the Hackney branch at 9am, and they were all gone.

prettybird, or anyone else who can get them, yes please. I could do with a few, frankly (any spares will go to the childcare co-op or friends or whatever). Let me know where you are and if you can get any.

Can't get in to the Royal Mail web site at the moment to get an idea - but the postage were even as much as £15 as the ebay examples would suggest, would people still be interested?

Piffle · 27/07/2006 11:22

If anyone could get one I'd jump at the chance even with postage
DD has noonan syndrome and poor muscle tone so this would be ideal, no way can afford £70 or more for one.
I was at our lidl at 9 this am, the first man in got all 12, he is known to them as the car boot man
So pissed off

NotQuiteCockney · 27/07/2006 11:28

I probably wouldn't want as many at £15 postage, but I would still want one, as I've semi-promised to bring one to Canada this year for a friend ...

bran · 27/07/2006 11:28

Yes I would be interested if postage were around £15, thank you.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/07/2006 11:29

prettybird, where are you, anyway, more or less?

prettybird · 27/07/2006 11:37

I'm in Glasgow.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/07/2006 11:39

I don't have anyone obvious who could bring stuff down from there for me, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Actually, I lie, I have some teenagers coming on Saturday who may be roaming the country, I might make a deal with one of them in return for carrying bikes.

I'm sure I will take a few if you can get them, one way or another.

magnolia1 · 27/07/2006 11:40

I am housebound for the weekend If Anyone is near Surrey and can get one I would be really greatful and could pick it up early next week

prettybird · 27/07/2006 11:53

.... that's always assuming that they still have some!

But last time, there was a whole stack sitting there for weeks.

lanismum · 27/07/2006 13:51

i sent dp down to the hackney branch at 9, and they were all gone the store had opened at 8,
but, my lovely friend went to her local store, and managed to get the last 2, so her ds and my dd should be learning to ride them soon

BettySpaghetti · 27/07/2006 15:06

I got to our nearest store (30mins away) at 9.10 am, couldn't see any but then spotted a woman with a trolley full of what was their entire stock of them (about 8 of them) -think she felt a bit guilty when she realised thats what I was looking for as she let me have one of the ones from her trolley!

PS -If you were that lady and are reading this, thank you

PPS- if you were that lady and are reading this what were you going to do with them all -ebay? presents?

We got one from the store in Morden. I rang dp at about 11 as we'd both forgotten it was Thursday and he got the bus down and managed to get the 2nd last one. I'll have to check it out when I get home but think it might be a wee bit big for dd atm (shes a small 2.5) so may keep it for christmas. am so pleased

poppyh · 27/07/2006 17:16

checked 2 stores near me both sold out
but apparently both shops only had 2 to begin with!
