Well, it's been a while since we had one, what with all these Buguboos and Volos...

Anyway, sorry about the sacrilege, but I have been having problems in double mode. I found the handle wasn't close enough to me (even when flipped over) either because I'm 6' tall or perhaps it's taken until now to realise that I've got short arms. Before the second seat went in I didn't have any problems, but now that I have to stand a little further away from the handle because of the second seat bar, I found my back was constantly arching, especially when going downhill. Anyway, I got in touch with P&T (Jenna) and they do an extended handle for tallies which was here in 10 days for £15-odd all in. It seems to be the business. So if either you or your DP isn't totally comfortable, get onto P&T.

HTH,
Bear

Bear, glad you got it sorted. Just how many accessories do you think P&T make for the E3? Seems to be a never ending amount to me! Just thought I'd update you, dh has finally agreed to me ordering one but I'm still stuck on colours so any help would be gratefully received (as you can see I'm useless at making up my own mind ). We have taken your advice and are going to order from the UK now

mumbojumbo · 28/02/2004 12:03

That's very interesting about the extended handle. I've just put ds2 in the doubles seat at nearly 16 weeks with a headhugger from mothercare and he was fine.

I noticed that I seemed to be missing two clips from one of the seatbelts. Dropped an email to P&T's and there are sending me some replacements free of charge! I'm well chuffed!

e3 - I love it!

mumbojumbo · 28/02/2004 12:05

Bagpuss - got the black and charcol one - very stylish and goes with all outfits (OMG I should get a life!!!)

Gem13 · 28/02/2004 16:23

Bear you are a star! DH complaining about handlebar already. We're in newborn mode and only been like that for a week. He's 6'3 so thanks for the tip. How exactly did you get in touch with P & T's? Have just told DH and I have been told to 'sort it'. He is very pleased.

PS. Are you Phil or Ted?!

Bagpuss - I followed Bear's advice and went for the navy/charcoal. The black I thought was too dark and I have seen many a black Maclaren a funny shade of grey after being covered in sunblock and the red I thought was a bit loud. Red seems to be the 'wanted' colour though so what do I know!

nicm · 28/02/2004 17:26

Hi can i ask a quick question please? i have the older version, the kiwi explorer but was wondering if you thought that you could use the buggy connector things with 2 of these prams and a doubles seat on the back of one of the prams?

any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Thanks

BearintheBigBlueHous · 28/02/2004 17:42

Cheers Gem - email: [email protected]
NZ$20 for the handle and NZ$20 for postage (like I said about £15 in total).

NICM - no idea, having never used a connector. One thing that might be a problem is the wheels stick out a fair bit wider than the frame to which you would presumably be attaching the connectors. If it did work you could end up with a very wide load. Someone else may be better placed to help you tho. HTH.

thanks bear
i childmind and in sept could have a 6 month old, 18 month old and a 20 months old and don't fancy a triple as i dont think i would ever get anywhere as it would be so wide and wouldn't buy a tandem as they are normally too heavy/akward to push. i have a double kiwi at the moment and thought this might be the solution, maybe not though.

Thanks again

BearintheBigBlueHous · 28/02/2004 17:58

NICM, best bet is to find someone near you with one and give it a try, I guess. (I don't want to be the one who dissuaded you if it could work)

Thanks for that everyone, mine is arriving tomorrow . We have gone for the navy one as we went for a second visit to D&T where they had both the navy and black on display and the navy just caught my eye that bit more. Gem, they had the colour swatch for the red one but dh wasn't keen as it was certainly bright, also the assistant said they don't stay in stock for long as they are the wanted shade . DH has booked a weekend away to Wales next week so I will get the chance to try it out off road soon . Thanks very much again to all of you who have replied to my questions over the past few weeks, even dh (the sceptic) had to admit that it is a really nice pram and better than the Urban Detour it replaces .

Oh, just another thing, we got ours from Practical Pushchairs who have been very efficient so far. I haven't ordered panniers yet but for those interested they have them in all three colours for £25. (OMG, maybe it's me who should really get a life)

elliott · 02/03/2004 13:58

How many E3 mumsnet users do you think there are now? And what proportion of E3s in the UK owe their purchase to mumsnet??
mmmm, maybe its time to go back to work where I get paid to endlessly fiddle with data to answer questions of dubious value....

kiwisbird · 02/03/2004 14:01

I'd recommend blue, the red can clash so badly with clothing and stuff, plus it shows every mark...
Looks funky though!
i have blue and am very happy

Gem13 · 02/03/2004 18:32

A friend of mine accosted someone in Ikea (Croydon) a few weeks ago with an e3 and told her that her friend was getting an e3 soon!

How many other buggy owners have such weird encounters with total strangers?! Did this happen to anyone on here?

On a different note, had my first squealing newborn moment today while DS was playing on the swings with DH and I was shopping with DD. The shopkeepers looked quite alarmed. I thought they might be worried the baby was stuffed in the parcel shelf but DH thinks they might have thought I was like someone from 'Little Britain' pushing an empty buggy with a tape player. I almost felt like explaining I wasn't being a neglectful mother!

BearintheBigBlueHous · 02/03/2004 21:21

Likewise Gem, pushing the E3 back from nursery last week with DS hidden but singing in his rear seat and DD's front seat empty, got us some very funny looks and craning necks. But the tall handle meant I lost no control as I slipped and slid across the snow and ice.

Well, I've taken delivery and apart from a minor problem with one of the back wheels, all is well. We went out with it for the first time today and dd slept in it for about an hour (she never usually sleeps in her pram) so I am well impressed .

Just another question for anyone who has used a single rain cover though. Do you attach the plastic flap at the back of the buggy or just use the front bit? Sorry to sound so thick but we got caught in the rain today and everything was fine except there was a bit of a gap at the back, esp when dd was sleeping in layed back mode so just thought I'd ask .

kiwisbird · 09/03/2004 19:56

we had a minor problem with our backwheel too, like the pin wouldn't fit through the hole?
Our E3 is also the only pram dd has ever slept in and boy we have tried a few!
We've never got caught in the rain but I always take the flap in case! I am a little worried about the raincover as dd can kick and pull it off as its velcroed on... Still onc she's wet and cold she should learn a lesson huh!

kiwisbird · 09/03/2004 20:04

question while I am here
what d'yall use as buggy snuggles, our cosy toes is too bulky now dd is bigger and she gets too hot... any recommendations?

Cha · 09/03/2004 20:31

As an 'old' Kiwi Explorer owner - and very green with envy at all this talk of the new improved - can I ask a question? My friend is pregnant with no2 and wants to buy one - I ordered mine via NZ but can you get them in the UK now? She said she thinks she saw one in a shop on the King's Rd for about £400. Seems mighty steep as I paid £350 a year ago and that was including p&p from NZ and 17.5% VAT (about £70).

Bagpuss30 · 09/03/2004 20:59

Kiwisbird, yes ours had the same prob with the wheel. I ended up using the point of a screwdriver to lever the little washer a bit further down the wheel in the end. I am not using a cosytoes anymore. I didn't think it was worth the bother with shoes. I have a Polartec all in one suit for dd from JoJo Maman Bebe which is great. I am still thinking that I might get a liner though.

Cha, we got ours from Practical Pushchairs for £279 for the basic buggy. Their site is really good and has any accessories that you might want. They also do next day delivery.
