Whats the best new pre made swaddling type product IFYWIM. Theres an american company that does the cone style ones with hoods, but I recall some others that do what folding blankets does (great grammer hey)!. I thought it would be easier at 3am after a feed to use one. Never did it with dd , but think I will try this time, as dd wasnt good at settling.

we just used a flat cot sheet, folded over almost in half (diagonally iykwim); never bought the ready made up ones.

I am a BIG fan of swaddling, helped my two immensely for the first few months....

I used a cot sheet or a pram blanket too. As Canadianmum says, fold it into an upside down traingle, place baby in the middle and wrap each top part around and under baby's shoulders or arms. Takes seconds. No need for a hood ime.

re: hoods, I don't think you are meant to cover baby's heads while they are asleep - one of those cot death policies to keep them from overheating

Yes agree , not into the hood thing.

I might need to practise on a dolly , havent got a flat cot sheet, although in this heat it seems better. Have cellular cotton pram size blankets, are they big enough?

Yes, that's exactly what I used! They can last for quite a while, as the baby gets bigger the upside down bits of the triangle don't need to match up. The inside bit can be higher up to make it bigger. I'm sure none of that makes sense but I don't know how else to describe it!

And I practised on a doll too!

I found this NCT swaddling blanket , but it seems more of a faff than a normal blanket.

The first few times I swaddled mine I thought it was way too tight and they both wriggled out within minutes. I learned to do it REALLY tight and they both relaxed instantly; you could tell they found it a great comfort. A doll is a good idea but a wriggly baby is the real test!

I wouldn't use anything heavier than a thin sheet in this heat.

I used the foll -

have a look at this

I found it invaluable, definately one of my best baby buys.

My step sister has started using nappy nippas to hold together a swaddled blanket - it stops a very wriggly baby from breaking free
