Just about to buy one for DS's 4th birthday in a bid to encourage him to get to school, when he starts, in September.

There appear to be loads in the school bike sheds. Not that I am bothered at all but, as he will be new, is there a particular one they all want?

I relaly don't knwo, I bought my two their scooters off amazon, they are really cheap, £15 or so I think. Left them with more money for other presents. ds is 4 and he has struggled with his a bit.

Just wanted to say great idea for a present. DS is 4.5 and he loves his. He also uses it to go to school on some days (but just don't think for a moment it will be quicker than actually walking!)

FWIW my experience has been that the slightly more expensive ones are better. My mum had one at her house for all her granchildren which was a really cheapo one from the supermarket and it is a bit tinny, a bit sharp at the edges, and a the movement in the wheels is a bit rough. Once we had established that Ds really did like it, DH bought DS a "proper" one from the bike shop and it is really much better - really smooth wheel action, much more solid, folds really smoothly etc.

However the more expensive one does not have a carrying strap, which is quite annoying. You will inevitably end up carrying it quite a lot!

(DH enjoys it so much that he bought a second one on the pretext that DD - 2 - will soon want one as well, and he and DS go on little scooter rides together!)

get one that seems sturdy and folds down so you can carry it when he doesn't want to ride

the ones in halfords are supposed to be shite

I got dd the foll. one from blooming marvellous -

have a look at
this

It's really great - doesn't fold but is very light to carry. It is especially good for younger ones(my dd is almost 4)as it has two wheels on the front and one at the back.

If you do order from them I have a discount code for free posting(till 14th aug) - PT6G

Thanks for your replies.

Will avoid Halfords!

I hadn't thought of sharp metal so shall check them out for that.

Thanks for the BM code but I need to buy it today for Sunday!

Off to the shops now!
