Possible new present for kids

Hello

I'm thinking of setting up a small business to address a frustration of mine and I would love to get some candid feedback.

Basically as a way of avoiding buying more rubbish tat birthday presents I have started creating 'Experience Bundle' gifts.

The first was for a 5 year old girl and I pulled together a jazz dance class, a ballet dance class and a music / singing class. I basically called up and ask for a free trial and then made a nice certificate / envelope combo.

The second was for a 4 year old boy and was a football class, rugby class and Tai Kwon Do. Same principle.

Obviously it is a bit of a pain phoning up the companies and negotiating the trial, but once I've done it, I can do it again.

I would love to get your feedback on the following questions (or anything else you might think of!!!).

  • Do you like the idea?
  • Would you like your kids to receive this?
  • Would you buy it? How many times per year are you likely to buy it?
  • How much would you be willing to pay? A tenner for 3 vouchers? 15 for 5? Less, more?
  • Would there need to be a physical thing (i.e. certificate delivered to your house) or would you be happy just printing out the coupons yourself (ala Groupon). -Anything else I should think about?

The feedback I've had from all my friends is very positive, but they're a little biased ;-)

Appreciate any and all thoughts,

Ella

Tbh I wouldn't, if my dc were interested in doing anything like that I'd call the classes and get a free trial myself. It's also pretty pointless just having one class. It took a few classes to get my dc settled into the ones they do so the first couple were pretty useless. If I was to get something like that as a present there would need to be a physical thing for them to recieve, and it would need to look pretty special. I'd be more inclined to get them a go karting/paintballing/london show experience gift, but again, I'd just do it myself.

I might be half asleep but I don't really get it.
Do you mean they get to go to 1 lesson? Like a taster?
Is the gift they get to go to 1 lesson of each 3 things?
I think the thing is if I/my child was interested in an activity I'd research a good class and call to book a taster class myself (they always let you go along for free to check it out first)
If I received a gift like that for DC, I'm not sure what I'd think or if I'd use it. I wouldn't buy one for someone elses DC because I'd think it was a bit high handed.

I think also for me life is a major juggling act with 3 dc. All activities have to fit in with everyone else. It would be quite hard if one of the dc was given an experience as a present as they would want to use it but I would know that it would be a waste of my time and the organisation and my child would be upset if they enjoyed it but couldn't go back dud to a clash with brownies/swimming for another of my dc.

So essentially you would be charging for the free trials? I don't think i would bother; pretty much all the clubs I know off offer a free trial as standard, no negotiation needed so I wouldn't feel as if that was worth paying for tbh.

OK, thanks everyone for the feedback. Clearly needs refinement ;-)
