I have no idea - prices seem to range from dirt cheap to £1000

All advice welcome

Well i have been on both ends, brought one for £150 load of rubbish we did not find it comfortable, then brought one for £400 but its bliss to sleep on. I think you get what you pay for in this case but its what you can afford.

crunchie · 09/07/2006 21:04

OK I think as much as you can afford. It is one of those things that you souldn't scrimp on IMHO. You will sleep on it for at least 10 years, for approx 8 hrs a night. Cost per hour is minimal even spending a bomb. I got mine from the place I bought a bed 'litvinoff and fawcett' I think it was called. FAB FAB FAB, so comfortable, 8 years later still like new, no roll together, not too soft, no lumps. Sleep is great.

Look here cost about £380/£400. Bed and matress was about £800 (got the gothic one) I wouldn't change it for the world.

We have just bought this with a back support mattress and are in heaven. A king size is bliss and a firm matress mean no more back aches in the morning. Could have spent zillions but thought this was a fair price.

must be something in the air busybusybee as we're on the bed hunt at the moment as well and was thinking the exact same question...

will keep an eye on this thread... we looked at the JL sale but a lot of the stuff is out of stock already!

If you like wooden beds and live in London L&F are worth looking at. ALthough they are a bit more than you want to spend, they have a lifetime gaurentee on them!! So if teh bed lasts 20 - 30 years and costs £350 - £500, that is cheap in my book. However it all comes down to what you can afford. I could not scrimp on my bed, as I love 100% cotton sheets, feather and down duvets and a lovely bed. BUT I geta good nights sleep, so it is worth it

poisson · 09/07/2006 22:45

we spent
£ 1000 about 5 years agow hen we were borkerooney
bit was a good spend

MrsSpoon · 09/07/2006 22:46

We have recently bought a Tempur and it cost around £1,000. It is fantastic!

busybusybee · 09/07/2006 23:02

£1000
Oh dear - I cant stretch to that!

The bed Im thinking of getting is only £160!!!

You don't have to pay the VAT on a Tempur if you can prove you have a medical condition that would be helped by sleeping on one. Still pricey though.

crunchie · 09/07/2006 23:08

get teh bed, but try to spend £300 - £400 on a mattress, you won't regret it. If you have that kind of money
