i filled up the paddling pool early this morning so the sun can warm the water (and it has nicely!) used buckets from the inside tap (as i wasnt sure about the hosepipe ban) (we're in kent.) we have been conserving water since the ban in a lot of ways, so i dont feel too badly about this. (and we plan to cover the pool at night so we can use it again this week.)

JackieNo · 03/07/2006 14:13

Think hosepipe ban doesn't cover filling pools with a hosepipe, but a drought order does.

Now either this note wasn't on the link when you lot clicked it.

Or you can't read.

Or you just like whinging.

Note: Please note that the recent water restrictions don't include pools - it's fine to use a hosepipe to fill or top them up.

lunarx · 03/07/2006 14:23

i can read fine. and like most others, i like a good whinge :p

i figured it was just the safest option to use water from the inside taps. (not to mention, i probably couldnt have found our hosepipe if i looked!)

plenty of water in the fabulous North

Sorry for hijacking thread but, if you have this sort of pool is a pump necessary? Does that mean it needs to close to the house so that it can be plugged in? Just wondered about getting one but it would ideally fit at the end of our long garden, so wouldn't be able to plug anything in.
Would it be ok without a pump as long as it was chlorinated and had a cover? And where do you get the chlorine stuff from anyway? Do you need to use much of it?

Mytwopenceworth · 04/07/2006 23:13

you can get really long extension cords from b&q etc, so distance from the house is no problem. you need a filter cos all manner of nasties get in the water, bugs, bits of dirt, etc and the water gets very cloudy if not filtered. chlorine makes sure water isnt going to make you ill, but its still not nice if the water looks manky!

pool kits are everywhere. argos, ebay etc. everywhere!

I have a fifteen foot, and the keeping it free of algae is actually quite hard, have used chlorine and algaecide etc in the past but it always gets us in the end. Am using a new combined tablet in a bobber at the mo, and a week on seems to be doing the job

Radley · 04/07/2006 23:18

I bought this self and same pool yesterday, onine, for £45.OO INC delivery

KBear · 04/07/2006 23:22

Got a 10ft one in B&Q yesterday - 15% off too - GO GO GO.....

Thames Water's website says it's OK to fill up your pool with a hosepipe. You can't water your plants or wash your car but you wouldn't want to, you'll be too busy swimming in your pool!

mykidsmum · 04/07/2006 23:24

and a drainage tip, suck a hose pipe till the water come out the other end then put the hose down your drain, takes a while but no garden flood, dead grass etc (although the grass round my pool is the only green in the garden)

tortoise · 04/07/2006 23:30

Ive ordered a 8ft one from ELC for £30 plus had 20% dicount code.
Wheres the best place to get chlorine type stuff from?

mykidsmum · 04/07/2006 23:31

I bought mine from bestbuys, think argos do it

tortoise · 04/07/2006 23:34

Are these the sort of thing?

mykidsmum · 04/07/2006 23:36

yep that would probably do it, wouldn't get rid of algae though, depends how regularly you want to change the water, with chlorine and filter alone i would say max of two weeks before it goes slimey.
