kitchen rules and regulations

Hello. With my big round tummy getting bigger by the day I have joined MN and planned a new kitchen . I came up with a design, but my husband pointed out that I'd put the oven and hob right next to the fridge-freezer. Something designed to produce heat next to something designed to produce cold - doh!. Are there any laws or regulations that would prohibit this or is it simply not a good idea because the fridge will have to work harder?

No rules and regs but yes, it is not a good idea to situate them next to each other. If you are buying the kitchen from a supplier that also offers assistance with planning ask them if they have some kind of special slimline insulation product you can install - if there is no other option of course.
Welcome to Mn. And perhaps your dh would like to have a go at planning it for you...or is that a really bad idea...

Welcome to MN, maude101. I agree with Marina - it's probably not such a good idea. Don't think it would be a problem for the cooker, but the fridge would have to work harder to keep stuff cool, and therefore use more electricity to do it. Some hints on kitchen planning here . Good luck!

Wow. Swift replies. Thanks very much. There are other options, but this one was the most stylish and space-friendly (two things my husband wouldn't understand ). I'll have a rethink.

I have to beat mine off with a rolled up copy of BBC Homes magazine unfortunately. He takes a keen interest in interior design and has a good, if different to me, take on colourways.
I have very happy memories of planning our kitchen together when bulbous with ds Enjoy, it could be the last time you ever get to concentrate on home improvements for more than 30 uninterrupted seconds It has taken us FOUR months to source, decide and order the contents of our new bathroom to be seven years down the line with two monstrous dcs distracting us

I had heard that you should have your fridge-freezer, oven & hob and sink forming a triangle if possible and preferably have your sink under the window.
